If you are looking for more stuff like Justice, Revolte might be good. They don't have a whole lot of tracks, but some pretty good ones ("TAKK", "Unit 1 Lesson 2", and "Weak Generation").

They did a really cool remix to Daft Punk's Voyager (which is one of my favorite Daft Punk tracks) that I enjoyed.

Also, the new Ellie Goulding "Starry Eyed" remix by Monsieur Adi is fire. Its one of my new favorite jams.

I know this might sound crazy, but my personal favorite is the Diplo EM. He goes through so many songs so quickly. Even my most favorite DJs can lose my interest after a good long time - even Justice (my most favorite group, ever) loses my interest in their essential mix. Diplo holds my interest the whole time. He is insano.

Note: my personal favorite mix ever, though, is the Justice Xmas Mix (aka Fabric live 37: http://redthreat.wordpress.com/2008...tices-xmas-mix/ - Fabric was like "lol brah, peepz aren't rdy 4 dis" and so Justice released it for free, I've never listened to a mix that many times).

I guess I'm the only one who still kinda likes Justice. (Correct me if I'm wrong). I recognize their limitations, of course, in that their approach to music is kind of odd (if you've ever read any of their interviews {the one with Pitchfork comes to mind}) in that they don't claim to be musicians or anything like that, they just make sounds I guess, that they like. I really like what they do. I know they aren't perfect, and that some of their live sets suck, barring the Xmas mix, which I thought was pretty good. However, I try not to be completely philistine in my taste in electronic music, limiting me only to Justice, I've just been waiting for this new CD to come out for a while, and when they said "early 2010" and that came and passed, and then the Jamaica CD was finished, I figured I should look around for at least something.

ephex posted:

every new song of afrojack sounds exactly the same.

This, is so true. That, and I felt kind of ripped off when he only played his songs on his essential mix, not really giving us much behind the story of "what inspires Afrojack."

It seems that there are really a couple of approaches to Essential Mixes lately: 1. the whole "Past," "Present," and "Future" of ________ or 2. "What inspires" _______. Sometimes there is a 3. Just to have a real good set (Goa Mix comes to mind, the Sharam mix as well) but I find them to be rarer, with the whole advent/rise of the commodity of the DJ.

Are there any other sets like that for you, or am I wrong in this assessment?

Implying that Swedish House Mafia weren't a well established group before 'one'?

This was my thought exactly in reply to that comment. While now, they have gotten a lot of attention for 'One' they also had "Leave the World Behind" with Laidback Luke, also, the three of them have done stuff individually, and obviously former member Eric Prydz has done a lot on his own. I'd say that Swedish House Mafia was definitely a well established group/entity/Mafia before One.

I personally am not a huge fan of "We Speak No Americano" and I don't think it will be considered a classic song in a few years. Like, there are songs that came out a few years ago that I could still feel more than fine dancing to (actually, Adagio for Strings I could easily still dance to, sorry) but I can't even really enjoy dancing to We Speak No Americano now. It just feels kinda lame/corny to me.
