I've been lurking in this thread since the beginning, been enlightened to a loooooot of good stuff, learned about some gigs, and even went to some of these gigs (Ed Banger 7th, going to HardNYC, the upcoming Designer Drugs show). The one thing that I've seen discussed but always always always at a very high level is actually creating your own mixes or sets. Is there any advice you guys could throw out for someone looking to get into mixing and DJing? At a very, very basic level to start and then I'll work my own way up, of course...

Holy poo poo was HardNYC amazing. Everyone killed it, Buraka Som Sistema and Major Lazer probably had the best sets. Much better crowd than the Ed Banger 7th too, everyone was into it this time and ![]() ![]() Stuntastic fucked around with this message at 03:10 on Jun 8, 2010 |

Mr Viper posted:Not trying to be "that guy", but does anyone care about Justice anymore? I've seen them twice, and both times I've been seriously disappointed. I dunno if it was them or the crowd or what, but they just ... weren't that good :/ If you thought Cross was amazing and Justice is a good album making group why would you ask if anyone cares about Justice anymore when the news is about *them making another album*.

Probably this, I saw them at Terminal 5 when they first came through supporting Cross and then again for Ed Banger 7th and they killed it both times.

http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archiv...ecent_jell.html There's no excuse not to go to this if you live in Philly, NYC, LA or Chicago. Secret headliners every day unless you're in Philly in which case you get Major Lazer.

I ventured out to Montclair, NJ to catch deadmau5 today. The show was fun as gently caress, the new cube is incredible and the whole light show is incredible. Say what you will about his talent or what he puts out, but he knows how to get a party going. NJ loving sucks though and guidos loving suck and why the gently caress didn't he book a NYC show???

They're a lot of fun live, a bunch of my friends and I have caught them them every time they've come through NYC, but it's starting to get old after they've played 5 shows with the same exact setlist. It's about time for them to settle down and put out a new album. I kinda like this Steed Lord remix of Little Secrets, it may or may not have been originally posted in this thread? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dC0P0geupTc e: I'm also going to third or fourth the love for love for that Vampire Weekend remix.

Ras Het posted:Ricard Wilalobo is headlining at Fabric on the 21st, if that's your thing. And it's open til 2pm the next day. I'm actually getting there on the 20th so I figure I'll go to Hot Pink Delorean at Egg, and then either Fabric or Rhythm Factory to catch DJ Jollan who knows a bunch of my boys in Brazil or Pacha for Gregor Salto on the 21st. Plus Streetlight Manifesto is at O2 Academy on the 22nd and I missed them in New York so that was a lucky coincidence. Are any of those clubs/venues crappy and not worth going to?

Ras Het posted:Pacha will be unbelievably expensive, posh and gross... Like, unless you're a fake-tanned Jersey Shore character whose religion is Ibiza house, there's literally no reason to pick Pacha over Fabric or Rhythm Factory lol. Yeah that's how it is in NYC, I wasn't sure if it'd be different in London or not. I'll definitely avoid it, thanks!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SohKEjT9Xl0 Welp, this kind of owns really hard. Afrojack dropped this at Electric Zoo and I had mistakenly thought it was the Sound of Stereo remix of Vibrate by Proxy but it's definitely this. HEAVY bass.

It's funny because deadmau5 has said essentially the same thing about Threatis and djs in general, probably where the majority of the animosity on Threatis's part stems from:quote:“It puts me to loving sleep to be quite honest, I don’t really see the technical merit in playing two songs at the same speed together and it bores me to loving tears and hopefully with all due respect to the dj type that will loving go the way of the dinosaur id like them to dis-a-loving-pear.Its so middle man, they’re like loving lawyers. You need them, but they’re loving ****s. God bless them they’re my number one customer right so I’m not gonna go diss every loving DJ. But to say you become this massive up on a podium performer by playing other peoples productions at the same speed as someone else’s productions and fading between the two of them, I don’t get it.” -Joel Zimmerman
