Sort of related to this thread: I knew Deadmau5 was big, but when did he get big enough to play the VMAs? He seems completely out of place with the other artists like Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and Drake.

He's had music on ads for mtv shows for over a year.

I went to Rusko on Thursday in Salt Lake. It was so tight. I really enjoyed it. Rusko is just fun to watch, even if you don't dance - he gets so into his stuff its just fun to watch him. (I know this isn't the dubstep thread, but, that's that).

Aoki is also coming to Salt Lake, and I've never seen him - is his "one set that he always plays" any good?

Yeah Its fun for the first time you hear him. But it gets boring after a couple times.

Is it just me or all the top radio songs now heavily into house/electro/dance territory these days? Even the normal hip-hop artists are putting out 4x4 beats backed with a synth. What the hell? Is hip-hop dead? Is dance music mainstream now in America?

I mean, look at the current Billboard Hot 100. All of these are heavily house/trance/electro:

4. Usher - DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love
5. Taio Cruz - Dynamite
6. Far*East Movement Featuring Cataracs & Dev - Like A G6
8. Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World)
9. Enrique Iglesias - I Like It
10. Flo Rida - Club Can't Handle Me

And these are coming from many artists who mainly put out hip hop or sample driven stuff years ago. They're all going for straight 4x4 beats with synths now.

I blame Bros

I go to a New England boarding school so I consider myself an expert on bros. There is a whole culture at my school about "music to shower to". These bros scour every bro music blog looking for songs that have lovely synth + minor rap part + really really poorly sung chorus.

See? Bros.

I know...but even then, what they end up embracing blocks out the good poo poo WE listen to in this thread. That's the real problem. They'd rather skip Wolfgang Gartner, Boys Noize, Feed Me, Kill the Noise, Treasure Fingers, Udachi, Alex Metric and the like for some lovely house mix of an already lovely top40-of-the-week track that won't even matter years from now. THAT'S why it's depressing.

This has to be sarcastic. Please be sarcastic.

Anyone in the NYC area should definitely check out the Busy P set tomorrow night at Hiro Ball Room.

I just got an email hinting at a big surprise guest appearance at the show tomorrow night... It mentioned "2 French Guys" but they didn't name who.

Off the top of my head the only 2 French Guys I know are Justice or Daft Punk. My money is on Justice being that they are on Ed Banger Records. But Daft Punk also did that surprise appearance at the last Phoenix show at MSG, so who knows...

Here is a link to the blogpost:

edit: VVV ahah holy crap, I totally mistook Reset! for Redial, re-listening to some old Reset! makes you so right!

While searching for more Moombahton I found a couple really good dj's that do alot of Moombahton stuff. First is DJ A-Mac. His edit of Reset!'s remix of Annie You Save Me as well as his edit of Heads Will Roll are fantastic.

Secondly is Munchi. Munchi is a monster when it comes to making latin based grooves. Although its not really Moombahton his remix of Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites is awesome. His remixes are brutal and serious bangers. His original songs are pretty good as well.
