If anyone here isn't familiar with Siriusmo yet, I highly recommend checking out his debut album on Monkeytown. Even if you're not into the glitchy, experimental side of his work, there's some great compositions here.

Now that's an intro.

Anyone go to Hardfest this year? Simian Mobile Disco looks like they knocked it out of the park.

Aw man you guys, Institubes shut down.

A large portion of their fanbase was in Japan, so the recent catastrophe may have drove them off the deep end - Stoney Roads mentions the label "has had to close its doors due to losing too much money through operating costs, and a tough uphill battle with the bigger companies focusing on the who and not the music". Surkin, Para One, and Bobmo have gone on to start a new label, Marble.

This label's seen some real relics and hosted some of my favorite artists; Surkin and Das Glow to name a couple. Another nail in the classic electro coffin

I'm completely new to electronica/synth or whatever, but I'm looking for starting point to get into this stuff. I don't really enjoy techno, or your standard 4/4 beat repeated constantly with a really simple melody played in front of it, with a DJ doing some EQ mixing. I kind of want something that is really heavily melody driven, a whole lot of arpeggios with classical influence and whatnot.

Justice initially got me interested in house; I would personally describe them as orchestral disco:

Their new stuff draws heavily from 80s glam metal, which sounds a lot worse than it acutally is:
