So the Identity Festival has a special deal today: $20 tickets for the next 20 hours!

I wonder why the sudden (desperate?) promotion - perhaps because nobody wants to attend an EDM event featuring seating and no open floor space?

Avicii played a two hour set at my university last night. It was pretty epic to rage out with all my friends who ordinarily wouldn't go to such an EDM show, but it was completely style over substance.

Don't get me wrong - his tunes are great, but I didn't see Avicii put on his headphones a single time during the night (he kept them around his neck the whole time), and his transitions were simply from one tracks' outro to the intro of another song. Hell, the opening DJ mixed way better than him.

Playing three/four of his own remixes in a row (Drowning, Hang With Me, Rapture, Escape Me) also got monotonous - at least he ended it with a killer combo of Zombie Nation and Antidote.

UMass?

It terms of Avicii's sets hes definitely reached the "rock-star DJ" level and people that aren't really into EDM would be pissed if he didn't come in and play all his singles. I've seen him twice and while I agree he could probably mix it up a bit more I feel like that's not his selling point, people just want to rave the gently caress out to Levels and Blessed and that's it.

UNH, actually.

It wouldn't surprise me if there's some uproar with Avicii in the near-future involving pre-recorded sets/faux-DJing (kinda like what happened to Steve Angello).

Yeah frankly, that video does a good job explaining Deadmau5 to anybody outside of the EDM scene (which the clip was designed for).

So if Swedish House Mafia Vs. Knife Party's Antidote didn't already make me want to jump up and rage everything in sight, this explicit video seals the deal.

I checked back up to thanksgiving but did not see this posted here. 3 hour live show from Avicii recorded from soundboard (you can google for a download of the entire mp3). It flows really amazing especially the first hour, its something that really needs to be experienced.

For the love of god go listen to the first hour of the soundcloud or even better download the mp3.

Yeah that's a great first hour, too bad that the rest of the set doesn't flow that well. I've talked about Avicii's live shows earlier in this thread, and I hope that he gets better at transitions as well as creating some sort of narrative in his DJ sets.

I guess the best thing about that set are the previews of all the unreleased Avicii tracks that we can expect.

Chris Liebing just launched a new vocal label this month (CLRX) and this is the first release featuring vox from Martin Gore (Depeche Mode). The BEST sex music:

Motor opened for Depeche Mode on their 2009 European tour. They were very unremarkable, but Gore's vocals do lend themselves well to their sound.

Anybody in the Northeast hitting up the Winter White Tour next month? Each stop has different lineups with an all-white attire (although I doubt it'll be enforced). I'm personally going to the UNH stop with Guetta, Alesso, and R3hab.

Also, has anybody in the Cambridge/Boston area ever been to Throwed? It seems worth checking out when they have a decent DJ, but the crowd seems really trashy based on videos like this.

Yeah, absolutely. Mashups would become a thing of the past. So would live recordings on Soundcloud.

Prydz is headlining this year's Identity Fest tour. Anybody going? I'm hitting up the stop in Mansfield, MA. I'm iffy about the fact that it's in an amphitheatre with seats (which sounds awful for EDM). But there's Prydz, as well as Arty, Madeon, and other good acts.

Not keeping up on trance but I saw Armin van Buuren do a three hour set in Boston last week, and he absolutely killed it. Must have counted him doing, what, seventeen Jesus poses, and that Motherfucking Saga Continues song was played and had everybody bouncing up and down.

Yeah I heard about the bad transitions with his [Madeon's] early shows, but those recent clips from Coachella are what has me considering it now. Coughing up 30 to a lovely venue just isn't the greatest feeling though, hmm.

I hear his club sets and festival sets are the same, as in, no longer than one hour. Apparantly his act is much more "live" than many other DJ's. Whatever, seeing him at Identity Fest, better not be any schedule conflicts.

Oooh boy, Joel did another album.

October is a cool track, so are The Veldt* and the instrumental version of Professional Griefers. The rest is completely unremarkable.

Hasn't his music always been poppy? Look at how successful his songs were on the UK charts.

What I find more upsetting is how he's been playing the same live set over and over. Look at all these similar track listings from 2012: http://www.1001tracklists.com/dj/calvinharris/index.html

Other DJ's are doing this too but there's really no excuse for this.

Anybody attending Eric Prydz' EPIC 2.0 shows in NYC, Chicago, or L.A.? They went on sale today, if the word from the 2011 UK shows is true then these should be amazing events.

Say what you want about Tiesto's music, brand, whatever - he still knows how to mix a proper set and read a crowd, which is unfortunately much more than you can say of most superstar EDM DJ's.

$127 is a lot for a one day festival, but that's just the world we live in. Don't see Guetta, I saw him at EZOO last week and he was boring as hell.

This is an ID track taken from the latest episode of EPIC radio.

Such a great track, fans are referring to it as the Ambassadeur ID. It probably won't be released though unless Prydz releases another Pryda album.
