Why was there a new thread created? Electro-pop and house/techno/synth are sufficiently differentiated to warrant seperate threads. We all know this is just going to turn into a house re-re-re-re-mix thread. As a fan of electro-pop, I'm really not interested in looking through page after page of MSTRKRFT and Chromeo mixes...

The whole reason for the electro-pop thread was that its a genre that tends to get completely overlooked in threads such as these.

I have to agree. I support this thread and all, but I thought it was to replace the Danger thread. I didn't know mine was going to be closed along with it.

I've always loved The Horrors remix if Pogo. I was surprised they even did remixes, actually.

Can anyone recommend me some more Electro-pop I might like?

I started out with Ladyhawke and after seeing her live in a really great, very personal concert (Here in NZ) I fell in love with the genre.

I've been listening to some Little Boots and some La Roux, but I'm really not sure where to start otherwise. Any ideas would be totally welcome.

Edit: Actually I think I fell in love with Pip Brown, but that's beside the point :ssh:

You should be listening to Cut Copy.

Passion Pit is pretty standard indie isnt it, besides their use of synths i dont get why they would be in this thread (lots of bands use synths?)

dk2m posted:

Sorry, I don't really know what genre Passion Pit would be. I heard synths and immediately classified them as more electronica but I can see now why they are not really a fit for this thread.

They fit more into the Electro-Pop genre, which was merged into this thread for some reason.

Nope, sounded like the same lovely rap poo poo they play on the radio. I actually think it was probably the farthest thing from house/electro in this thread.

Hey guys I went back to listen to it since you were all making it clear I was wrong, but poo poo, it's still terrible.

I can almost forgive him for not knowing what the term "electro" means. But he also doesn't know the term "dancehall" so, again, it may be a lost cause.

I didn't know that electro had been changed to meaning "rapping and yelling over chip tunes and sound effects" but ok.

hey just an FYI, when people with a deeper and wider knowledge base than you go "by the way, you're wrong", it's usually best to ask why and to you know, LISTEN, instead of just coming back with the same stupid opinion.

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT ELECTRO USED TO MEAN!

It's not about you not liking a mix, it's about you hating it for the most lame, uninformed reasons. I'm no South Rakkas stan at all, but you can't just say that kinda poo poo about electro. It makes you a newjack gently caress.

I mean, you are fronting on Afrika Bambaataa, dude. Do you have any idea of how sacrilegious that is to anyone who enjoys the music of the last 30 years?

Uh, I'm not "fronting" on Afrika Bambaataa. I listened to the song JimmyJazz posted multiple times. I'd never heard it before, and that guy can rap over Kraftwerk all he wants because it sounds GOOD. However, that South Rakkas mix did not sound GOOD. Therefore, I do not like it. What the gently caress is so difficult to comprehend about that?

ManoliIsFat posted:

I'm sorry I get so angry, it just breaks my heart to see a dude get all defensive and shut himself out from some really excellent music that obviously is a huge inspiration to a lot of people's favorite artists.

What in the gently caress? I didn't write off the whole genre. Jesus, I make a one off remark describing the sound of a mix and now it's being implied that I must think that about every single thing I listen to.

Goldfrapp has a new single out called "Rocket". It looks like this time she's going the Ladyhawke route and trying the whole "sounds like it's straight from the 80's" thing. It's too bad it's pretty bland.

If you like this style, check out Holy gently caress. They just put out a new album in the past month or so.
