Why was there a new thread created? Electro-pop and house/techno/synth are sufficiently differentiated to warrant seperate threads. We all know this is just going to turn into a house re-re-re-re-mix thread. As a fan of electro-pop, I'm really not interested in looking through page after page of MSTRKRFT and Chromeo mixes...

The whole reason for the electro-pop thread was that its a genre that tends to get completely overlooked in threads such as these.

Danger - Octopus! posted:

Went to see the Pet Shop Boys in Glasgow last night.

First band was Unicorn Kid, a local hipster-nerd-looking teenager doing dancey retro commodore 64 music. Didn't seem to appeal to much of the audience but he was good fun, just not what most people were there for.

Second band was Bad Lieutenant, the group Bernard Sumner formed out of the ashes of New Order. Their own music was a bit far from my taste, guitary rock stuff, but luckily they only played a couple of tracks of that (which only really went down well with That Guy At A Gig Who Really Really Digs The Support). People went pretty wild as th ey played a few New Order tracks (Bizarre Love Triangle, Temptation and another one) as well as Love Will Tear Us Apart and Out Of Control. I was pretty happy, since I never got the chance to see New Order before they broke up and they were really good versions of their tracks.

The Pet Shop Boys themselves were incredible - Neil Tennant was charismatic and great, choreography for the backing dancers was really clever in a few places, Chris Lowe busted out some funky dance and the stage set design was really neat, since it was all big boxes be moved around between and even during songs. The audience was a mix of gay couples reminiscing about back in the day, 30something women going crazy for the big popular tracks and a sprinkling of younger hipsters with ironic haircuts.

Unlike Erasure, who I saw in 2007, the Pet Shop Boys have actual good recent albums - the Erasure crowd pretty much went silent every time a newer track was played, but the songs from the last two PSB albums went down a treat last night.

I'm jealous. I'd love to see PSB live. One thing thats great about them, as you mentioned, is that their new stuff is quite good. This is in contrast to many other acts from that era who are still producing music that pretty much sucks now.
(Duran Duran, A-Ha, Depeche Mode: I'm looking at all of you)

On the other hand, I have seen New Order live. Temptation is probably one of my all-time favourite songs.

Uggh. This is so far from a remix it doesn't deserve the title. It IS a great song, in and of itself, but aside from that one charging laser sound, there's barely any resemblance to the original song.

The Social has electro nights on Mondays. There have been some bigger djs there like MSTRKRFT but usually its just a night of a local dj spinning electro (which is awesome).
I think Justice played at circa last year.
Really your big go-to clubs for electronic music are The Guvernment and Footwork. Both play big names usually every weekend and are pretty awesome. The guv can be annoying sometimes because they pack people in and I'm a dancer so its hard to find space in the main room. Footwork is usually a great time. Good go-to for electro. The Social is awesome but its monday nights so I almost never go :\
There is also a place called This Is London but its like 23+ so I can't go yet.
Oh and comfort zone which spins house. I haven't been but I hear its alright. Just reaaaallllly sketchy.
I'm usually out every weekend, you just need to get "into the scene" and you're gonna be wondering how you can afford all of these shows.
Toronto has a wiiiicked electronic music and party scene.

Oh, I'm well aware of the Guvernment and Circa...been to both many times. I was more looking for places that play good current stuff, but aren't necessarily part of the big tours circuit.

I've seen lots of posters for Footwork but I've never been.
