Hello, time for another Cyril Sneer drive-by-posting featuring a whirlwind overview of the latest in electropop. Firstly, Empire of the Sun has a new album out. Its very heavily produced and some would same cheesy, but if you can appreciate it for what it is, its pretty fun. The two big standouts for me are: Empire of the Sun - DNA Empire of the Sun - Concert Pitch This, IMO, just might be EOTS' single best song EVER. Its THAT good. Cut Copy has a new album coming out shortly, and they're touring again. These guys represent the pinnacle of electropop so I'm super stoked. Cut Copy - Let Me Show You Love edit: I'm not crazy about this song but CC literally have never released something I didn't like so I remain optimistic about the album as a whole. Capital Cities tune Safe and Sound has blown up this past year, and now they've got a new single out, and its hella catchy as well: Capital Cities - Kangaroo Court Holy Ghost! These guys are super great with a pretty unique sound. They've just released their new album, "Dynamics". This is their latest single and I'm a bit confused since its not actually on the track list for the album. Hmmm. Anyway, its very good and sounds somewhat like Watching the Detectives-era Elvis Costello. Holy Ghost! - Teenagers in Heat Okay, okay. To pull things back into da club, since I know that's what you're all really here for, we have the latest track from The Magician. The Magician - When the Night is Over. This is probably his most mainstream-sounding track to date. This is a true club-ready tune and I really hope it makes into widespread rotation. Attention Horse posted:loving hell, Annie's new EP - "The A&R" - is fantastic. I think Invisible was posted earlier in this thread, but Hold On also kicks rear end. I know, I know. I've just been so busy - I'm supposed to have a thesis draft done by the end of this month, and then I'm being kicked out of my program in December. Well finally caught up to the end of the thread:Mystery Steve posted:This totally slipped me by. Man I keep trying to like Metronomy but I can just never get into them. Anyway, doesn't seem to be a whole lot going on in the indie-dance world (indie dance has better connotations than synthpop ). I think I already posted Empire of the Sun and the Presets new stuff. New Anoraak - Behind Your Shades https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pCHGxDzoMs The Young Punx - All These Things Are Gone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C22ldoluKA. This is really great. Hi everyone Haven't been in this thread for almost a year now, but I've finally finished my masters and can once again pay attention to music. Sadly, this has been a pretty bland year for the indie-dance/indie-electro scene (I find myself still riding on the coat trails of last year's big releases - Empire of the Sun, The Presets, Cut Copy) so I don't have anything to post edit: Ok I'll make this a bit more positive. Here's a few good tunes from the last few months: Fenech-Soler - Last Forever https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiVzJirrDgQ Alex Metric (feat. Stefan Storm) - Heart Weighs A Ton https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quTz2FGWzrE Sheppard - Geronimo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UL_EXAyGCkw (you've probably all heard this) Owen Pallett - Song for Five & Six https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr_SbrFIuKA <<-- real artsy stuff going on here MODERNS - Kowalski https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEnMr7tVaqE <<-- Listen to this if you want some real authentic 80s sounds all up in ya, yet with a decidedly modern edge OH AND THIS: Empire Of The Sun - Tonight (HQ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11lHalUROE4. Yup, EOTS provided a song for Dumb and Dumber 2. It's a shame such a good song is wasted on such a terrible movie. Cyril Sneer fucked around with this message at 21:06 on Dec 28, 2014 |

LORD OF BUTT posted:I'm kinda thinking of making a thread for synthwave, since it seems to be kind of a separate scene from regular EDM. Not sure if it could support its own thread though. I have lots of...opinions...on synthwave. There is definitely a time and a place for it and a few good artists making it, but it suffers pretty heavily from the low-hanging-fruit phenomenon wherein it seems like every dude who gets his hand a synthesizer suddenly fancies himself a synthwave act. Basically, there's very little creativity in the scene, it all sounds the same, all the imagery is the same, and there just doesn't seem to be any progression. It comes across as feeling like an "easy" genre with a relatively low talent ceiling. Anyway, Kavinksy is good, and so is Short Circuit. Nordick posted:So I just came across this duo called Dance With the Dead and they instantly became my new favourite thing in synthwave. I do like the genre overall but a lot of it does really blend together just repeating the same tropes. As someone who thinks the vast majority of synthwave is hot garbage, I'll give that you these guys do seem to bring a unique edge to the genre.

Nordick posted:More upbeat, "sunny" sounding synthwave is good on an idea level and something I'd like for variation every now and then, but this just gets too saccharine for me. I blame the vocal style, mostly. The music itself is nice, but combined with the cheesy vocals it's just a bit too much. I agree with this, but then, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrKNb5uwjxQ [/quote] how is this not a completely cheesy female vocal trance track?
