regardless if you're on the fence about seeing someone you like live because its a dj set instead of their live stuff, what's wrong with you? be honest, no producer has enough good tracks to merit listening to them for two hours straight. even for someone like daft punk whose whole pyramid lazer light show and whatever bullshit i'd be just as happy hearing what other tunes they think are worth playing as hearing them play the same stuff ive listened to at home. djs arent a rock band, and treating them like they are is only going to make your experiences worse

honestly the original boney m song is way better/more interesting than barbara streisand. i mean its one thing when say daft punk samples a slower less danceable song but you could easily just drop gotta go home and people would probably like it just as much

There aren't really any moombahton artists, it's just sort of a gimmick style done by regular djs as a change of pace. If you haven't checked out El Guincho, he's not really moombahton but sample-based latin grooves and his newest album is really great.

infinity2005 posted:Why do they though, i really don't get it? It sounds associated happy hardcore (obviously), but there hasn't been any of the old style of happy hardcore released for over 10 years. And the specific craze of childish tracks like Hixxy & Sharkey - Toytown was extremely short-lived all the way back in 1996, all the clones of it got annoying very quickly as you'd imagine. There was no weird subculture related to it here either. I think you're way overestimating US ravers. The last rave-esque event I went to was probably ~90% hardcore, 10% lady gaga, bad daft punk remixes, etc. This was in 2010. Raves have not changed at all. The thing is too is I think in england 'rave' is a much broader term, here it's very specifically large-scale glowsticks-and-e mid-90s techno parties.

LE0N posted:Ive never been to a "rave" which has turned out to have hardcore djs playing and ive been on a few nights out where i didnt really even know who i was going to see. "Rave" in the uk tends to have connotations a bit with "nu-rave" and indie shite thanks to the NME and all that bollocks but that was years ago. Rave nowadays can mean anything from DnB, techno, dubstep, garage, grime, indie, electro, pop etc etc. Yeah I really have no idea but like when I hear annie mac talking about 'raving' or whatever as a word for going out to a club maybe that's just slang that doesn't translate-- we'd never use it that way--raving is what kandi kids do. Even the actual illegal warehouse parties that still happen here, nobody would call them raves because of the unfashionable associations. I think it was Hipster Runoff actually I remember making a joke about ravers being the 'juggalos of the dance world.' To me the flak about EDC and stuff is so confusing because it's like-- not only are the newspapers obviously outdated, but the idea that there are apparently gigantic swaths of West-Coast tweens who are so behind the times is baffling.
