Furnace posted:because the last thread was full of that poo poo, and honestly, so he made the assumption that Daft Punk were the first ones to do live PA when there were a ton of producers doin the same thing before them, just not as flashy. But they did it dressed like ROBOTS, you see. Its very hard to argue innovation in music. I'm sure everything we like in whatever genre was already done by some experimental electronic band in the 70s. Daft Punk brought together different influences, and have a ridiculously good sense of repetition without becoming boring (no matter what that loving troll from the last thread says). I really used to think Daft Punk were loving amazing geniuses, until I started digging deeper into house and all this other stuff. They're still amazingly talented, they just somehow got lucky enough to become a household name. Anyway, this is already too much thinking. More bangers. \/\/\/\/I think we should have a thread for every single genre of electronic music. I'll write the musique concrete thread. Is it really such a horrible sin to like house but not rap? At least not the style of rap that was in the Gucci mixtape. I don't know, at this point I'm afraid to express any kind of opinion in this thread, but I didn't really like the gucci tracks either. The music was good, but the rapping was a little too gangsta for my taste. EDIT: Yeah, I know poo poo about rap. Caseman fucked around with this message at 04:27 on Jan 14, 2010 |

Turbo P is back to save the thread! That maestro documentary is pretty awesome. I've watched a few others that have probably been linked in this thread, one about Chicago and the other about Detroit. Its great to see the New York perspective. I would give up all this new technology poo poo to go back to when things first started, where House was born. The music now is pretty loving good, though.

Mr Viper posted:Funny you mention them -- Steve Angello is playing here next week, and I was considering going to the show, but I'm not really familiar with his "beats". Got any good song / mix recommendation of his? Christ Almighty will I ever get tired of "WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS!"? Just found out I can't make Ultra this year due to finances. The trip was going to cost upwards of $600 for tix+hotel alone, and I live in Florida. Sad.

For other DJs, listening to mixes involves a lot of chin stroking. For the casual listener it involves a lot of boogie.

He doesn't have any kind of retardation. Check his website. He's just a weird looking dude. I work at Lenscrafters, so I see people with high prescriptions like his every day. Granted, he could use a smaller frame/contacts to not look so strange, but he seems to like looking strange. That said, I've bought both of his CDs, and emailed him a couple times. He's a very nice guy, and just loves making music.
