Ras Het posted:Nah, au contraire, Pressure Sounds, Blood & Fire and 17 North Parade support my point: they don't release duds. Cherry picking a few labels does not make your point true, I can just as easily pick labels where I love certain eras of their output and don't enjoy others (Jammy's, R&S, Metalheadz, Greensleeves, etc. etc. etc.) So Is Jammy's et all, "bad"? Any label with a sizable output is bound to have duds. But you know this already.

Ras Het posted:
Not necessarily a bad era, but I just can't grab any Jammy's from the bin at the record shop and know that I'm gonna be buying it. It has lots duds that were released near the same time as their dancehall classics, but that bin also has a lot of big tunes. As for my "era" comment, I was mainly referring to golden-era Jungle/drum and bass labels that would often turn to poo poo. And I am taking into account how the Jamacian music industry operated(still operates?) in terms of usually having lots and lots of output when an artist becomes popular. And of course a bunch of weak tunes usually result. "if you can't get anything from a label blindly and always enjoy it, they're not a good label." That's really the only statement you've made that I can't understand. EDIT: Also I guess we could take this to the reggae thread but eh, It's relevant to dance music.
