This. Forests burn down a lot if left to their own devices. Every culture that has lived in that area has a history of controlled burns in order to remove buildups of underbrush and dead, dry wood. The larger, older trees that make up the backbone of the forest are burn-resistant.

Basically we need forest management but government thinks we should just let forests do their thing and it will somehow magically turn out alright.
