Rebuttal: It has not been the same picture over and over. The first one, that I thought was a better one, apparently nobody agreed so it was switched back. I asked to have it deleted because it wasn't being used. I just figured why have it on here if it's not being of any use? So I made a new one that I thought was a good replacement, thus I gave it a try; only to find that I was banned almost immediately just for trying to make a legitimate attempt to improve an article with my knowledge on the topic. I don't get the system of banning for such little things like that. If someone would maybe offer constructive criticism on what would make a better image, rather than just going straight for the ban button, I could produce a quality example that the community will accept as the best possible example available.

Go play somewhere else. Wknight94 talk 04:36, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Altruism. Altruism doesn't really exist. Even if you are doing something that is helpful or charitable for others, you will still reap the good of that action. The idea that one should do things for altruistic purposes is wrong and can lead to the downfall of society, as Ayn Rand wrote about in Atlas Shrugged. If one portrays that they are doing something completely for others benefit and has no self interest, that is when you should question thier motives. Why do they wish to appear so benevolent? When one does for other people at least there are good feelings that arise and right there, the theory of altruism is defunct or never existed.

My Little Pony in popular culture

My Little Pony, being amongst the most popular toy lines of all time, is regularly referred to in various media. Perhaps most prominently, the ponies have had several "cameo" appearances in cartoons.

* Radio talk-show host Laura Ingraham refers to former Senator John Edwards as "Silky Pony" and plays the My Little Pony theme music when discussing stories about Edwards.
* In 2005, when US President George W. Bush nominated Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court of the United States, political cartoonist Steve Sack drew a cartoon depicting Bush brushing a pony toy with false eyelashes under the title "My Little Crony", since it was recently after the dismissal of Michael D. Brown for failing to handle the Hurricane Katrina crisis.
* Robot Chicken did a skit called "Apocalypse Ponies" which featured Pestilence Pony, War Pony, Famine Pony, and Death Pony.
* Another Robot Chicken short involved the mythical winged horse Pegasus having his wings severed and turned into a My Little Pony-esque creature by a demented little girl (voiced by Cree Summer), who whipped him into accepting his fate, and his new name - "Sunny Muffins." This was a parody of a scene from the TV miniseries Roots, in which the African man Kunta Kinte is flogged into accepting his new name, "Toby".
* The Backyard Sports series has a parody called "My Precious Pony". In the series, Maria Luna says that she collects My Precious Pony dolls.
* Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, released an April Fool's joke revealing that the newest d20 RPG setting would be an adaptation of the My Little Pony setting to a role-playing game.[7]
* Something Positive referenced My Little Pony in a similar way on May 28, 2008.[8]
* For April Fool's Day in 2006, the front page on Slashdot.org (a popular news site) was redesigned in the fashion of My Little Ponies.[9]
* A parody/homage of the ponies has made multiple appearances in the Cartoon Network animated series Dexter's Laboratory, as the Pony Puff Princess and the Pony Puff ponies, idolized by Dee Dee and her friends. Except for the unicorn horn, they bear remarkable resemblance to the ponies of My Little Pony.
* On Clarissa Explains It All, Clarissa in an episode rents a series called "My Little Unicorn".
* In the 2007 Transformers film, Ironhide crashes into a pool of a house. A little girl walks out of her house, thinking that it was the Tooth Fairy. She was carrying a My Little Pony stuffed animal just before Ironhide emerges from the water. The plush toy she is holding is of the character Pinkie Pie, in the Generation Three line. This is an allusion to Hasbro, because My Little Pony was created by Hasbro, and the Transformers franchise is licensed by Hasbro.
* In "Mars, Bars" is episode 14 of season 3 of the television show Veronica Mars. In the jail cell scene, Veronica has a drawn-on tattoo of a My Little Pony with the words Thug Life written over it.
* In the Walt Disney Pictures Movie Meet the Robinsons, My Little Pony is referenced two times. In a few scenes, the Bowler Hat Guy has a unicorn binder. In another scene, The Bowler Hat Guy is drinking from a cup with a pegasus top on it that looks like it has the My Little Pony Pegasus named Firefly. She has a pink body and blue mane and tail with lightning bolts on her rump.
* On G4's show Action Blast! during intervals is a segment called The Cobra Commander Show where G.I Joes arch-enemy Cobra Commander discusses his view on the world. One episode reveals that he likes to play with My little Pony dolls and watch the My Little Pony cartoon series.
* Cartoon Network's The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy had a parody of My Little Pony in "Ecto Cooler / Schlubs" as My Troubled Pony. The series was canceled before the ending was made, so Grim hunts Schlubs for gold bars to make an ending. The credits show Grim watching television, with the ending of My Troubled Pony on, drawn crudely with crayons, by Billy.
* A Perry Bible Fellowship comic strip by Nicholas Gurewitch, titled "Gamblin Man", features a My Little Pony look-alike named fancy-dancy magic-prancy running in a real-world horse race, but flying away in mid-race.[10]
* In Boy Meets World, Cory's Little sister holds a Glow 'n Show pony in one of the earlier episodes
* A parody of "My Little Pony", known as "My Little Pwny" has appeared on many gaming forums, including Bungie.
* A My Little Pony cartoon made a prominent appearance on a popular YouTube video disguised as pornography. The animated episode appears as punishment to the viewer, who is shamed by an unknown man in the video for trying to watch a scene of pornography on Youtube.
* On The OC the character of Summer Roberts has a plastic pony named Princess Sparkle who appears to be a My Little Pony.
* Jonathan I. Schwartz, the CEO of Sun has been given the nickname MLP by Daniel Lyons.
* On Nickelodeon's original movie Spectacular!, a scene shows the character Nikko Alexander passing his ex-band mates while in a "flashy" cowboy outfit. Nikko's ex-girlfriend says in response to his outfit, "I always wondered who wrangled My Little Ponies!" As a matter of fact, Venus Terzo who plays Marion Lane on Spectacular! also does voice-overs on the My Little Pony TV series.

btw nytimes has a debate on why wikipedia is such a sausage-fest

quote:

Wikipedia, the "free encyclopedia that anyone can edit," has more than 3.5 million articles in English covering nearly every subject under the sun. Every day, hundreds of thousands of people go there to add information or create new pages (the site offers straightforward instructions). Yet despite the site's openness, surveys suggest that less than 15 percent of Wikipedia's contributors are women. The Wikipedia Foundation has set a goal to raise the share of female contributors to 25 percent by 2015.

hmm the wikipedia editor population breaks down as 85% men and 15% women? that's weird, 15% female seems a little bit...

Wile E. Coyote has made two appearances in Family Guy. In I Never Met the Dead Man he appears riding in a car with Peter; when Peter runs over the Road Runner and asks if he hit anything, Wile E. says no and to keep going. In PTV, he appears in a flashback when Peter claims he had a mail-order operation, which turns out to be none other than ACME. He offers a store credit when Wile E. claims a refund for a giant sling shot that "slammed me into a mountain". Ms. Coyote then comes in telling her husband Wile E. to hurry up.

Hi - I came to this page trying to learn about the nature of Stewie's communication. From my own watching of the show it seems like other people (eg. the mother character) have a partial but incomplete understanding of what Stewie says (except for the dog who seems to fully understand). Am I correct? Anyway, if someone more knowledgeable could expand on this subject this article would benefit a lot. Manning (talk) 09:50, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

There use to be a section but I removed it cause it was an unsourced OR mess. Like many animated shows, there is inconsistency on who can understand him. CTJF83Talk 10:02, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

I appreciate that, but the article first and foremost needs to be written for the benefit of people like myself who genuinely do not understand the topic and come here to learn. I've also never encountered this "inconsistent understanding" aspect before (but I don't watch a lot of animated shows either). If it could be improved that would be great. Also the article on Brian Griffin seems to have a decent explanation. Cheers Manning (talk) 10:12, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

Well it'll be hard for us to write anything that is well sourced and isn't OR. For example, in "The Cleveland–Loretta Quagmire" Brian Griffin implies that Stewie can only be understood by family members and those close to the family but in early episodes it is hard to tell which family members can understand him and in Petergeist the librarian can understand him, so see all the conflictions? CTJF83Talk 17:12, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

@Manning - I too have wondered about who can understand Stewie. Clearly Brian can. I think the whole 'evil genius' role and the way he talks to the rest of the family, and their apparent lack of understanding or the way Lois just placates him, means they just hear baby talk, but we can understand what he's truly thinking. Plus the schemes or adventures he gets up to are jsut his imagination. I'm sure one could test these hypothesis out; but I lack the complete box set/time - but have plenty of motavation :o) IHSCarlett 11:45, 21 September 2009 (BST)

When this was in the article, it was subject to constant re-editing based on each editor's interpretation. The basic rule is Stewie often is not understood by others because he is a baby. This cannot be made more specific because who can understand Stewie changes at the convenience of the writers, and why is seldom made clear. I would favor either:

just using that basic statement without embellishment unless a reliable source is found, or
leaving it out altogether until a reliable source is found

Reminder: Family Guy is a work of fiction—there is no single correct interpretation to ambiguous story elements. / edg ☺ ☭ 11:47, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

I go for leave it out all together. I eliminates the large amount of OR that will be added. CTJF83Talk 18:22, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

I believe it was Love Blactually where they actually made a gag mention of Loretta being close enough outside of the immediate family for him to be understood. Of course it was a gag. But I very much agree to leave it out. --HELLØ ŦHERE 18:35, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

In the end of one episode it is discovered that the Griffans are being watched by some futuristic space people. One of them says "Any Questions?", and another says "Can they understand the baby?" Its inconsistant and gives the story flexibility. Sometimes it apeares as if Lois and others have no idea what he is saying and other times they carry on full conversations. Brian however has no trouble understanding stewie.69.233.195.133 (talk) 19:24, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

I came to wikipedia today to find out about this topic - to find out which characters understand Stewie or at least whether or not that is consistent. It's depressing to me that I have to come to the discussion page to find out anything about this, and marks an aspect that I dislike about wikipedia. Can't you agree that it's a good idea to say somewhere on the page that it's inconsistent and make small comment about the usual case...? Quite plainly people visit the wikipedia page with this type of question in mind - completely redacting any mention of a (mildly) controversial topic makes the wikipedia experience worse for everyone. Ronald ugh@treasurelondon.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.35.24.236 (talk) 22:40, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

A lovely sentiment, but it belies a misunderstanding about what Wikipedia is NOT supposed to be; specifically, it is not a collection of every single piece of information in existence. The fascination within pornography with female ejaculation also makes for an interesting feminist debate as it can be linked with the 'debasement' and sexualisation of women that has been recently documented in Natasha Walter's latest book 'Living Dolls'. For these reasons I feel feminism is importantly tied to the issue of female ejaculation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.26.216.211 (talk) 22:17, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Popular culture

Many video games feature conveyor belts, such as Donkey Kong (1981), Half-Life (1998) or Metal Gear Solid 2.

The Gladiators 1990s TV series featured The Travelator, a moving walkway (a type of conveyor belt) in its obstacle course. A 2008 MythBusters episode "Airplane on a Conveyor Belt" featured a conveyor belt regarding the myth that a plane cannot take off while sitting on a conveyor belt moving in the opposite direction.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiss features this voyeuristic photo of two teenagers kissing, complete with leaves from the tree the photographer was hiding behind. checking out :nws:the original photo uploaded:nws: reveals 1) even more tree leaves making it creepier, and 2) the girl is topless and her nipple is visible

but hey, at least its not encumbered by restrictive copyrights :)

meanwhile over on the talk page they have bigger problems to address

quote:

Being a classic-cartoon watcher, it seems to me there's something missing from the article, and that is the "Insulting kiss" which Bugs Bunny used to plant on Elmer Fudd all the time. That's a bit of antiquity, but WB didn't make it up: They got it from a Charlie Chaplin movie. So I have to figure it was already old even when Chaplin did it. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 00:19, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

I think Bugs is right about this (even if he is clearly pushing a POV, and risks being dragged before the Committee For The Protection Of Wikipedia From Usernames That Will Make The Sky Fall In, or whatever it is called ;) ). Without going too deeply into semiotics, I'd suggest that Bug's "Insulting Kiss" would be a useful addition, to counter the overly-functionalist tone of the rest of the article. The only problem with this that I can see is finding an appropriate image without running into copyright problems. AndyTheGrump (talk) 13:40, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Pre-Puberty Vulva?

I may be unaware of what exactly is defined as child pornography, but assuming the person pictured isnt someone who didnt hit puberty until they were 18... isnt this child porn? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.20.160.17 (talk) 02:17, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

The use of this image struck me as odd and somewhat suspect as well. It was uploaded recently, and the uploader is apparently Italian. He has had a conversation in user talk pages with someone else about it that I translated in Google Translate, and I can't draw a conclusion of the age of the person depicted, but breach of child pornography laws were drawn into question. I think this image should probably be deleted or at least removed from any pages it is used in, and the uploader should be contacted by a moderator. -- Ifrit (Talk) 00:42, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

I have no idea what picture you are talking about, but I would like to point out that nudity and pornography are very different things. Nudity is not a requirement for child pornography and not all pictures of nude children constitute child pornography. One could easily see photos of nude children (along with their parents etc.) on nudist sites, and these sites are the first to point out that they are protected even by american laws. The first commenter sounds like a YouTube commenter that sees breastfeeding videos on YouTube and calls it child abuse, since he sees breasts as sexual objects.
I don't know if is should be included or not, but fear that it might be pornography isn't a valid reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.112.45.87 (talk) 11:43, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

honestly i think there are tons of images that could be added than that one picture, maybe a diagram of those sex ed books or a hot teen, maybe a bit jailbaitish? 200.83.92.102 19:11, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

is a real picture of an adolescent boy and girl out of the question? a real picture would pretty much sum up the whole article. remember child porn has to have he person performing a sexual act or have the picture focusing on the genitals or breasts.

OR you could just get two pictures - Drawn out diagrams, one depicting the male puberty and the other one the female puberty. These diagrams usually show about five drawings, each of a step in puberty. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.200.150.137 (talk) 16:44, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Dude, where are you going to get a girl of age around 12-14 to show her breasts to wikipedia, and a boy of 14 to show his penis to the world, Im 14 and I wouldn't do that, so why would other people do taht
