I have never been able to really get into their last album, either, but I really want to - I guess I should give it another go.

Did anyone catch their show at Skatefest a week or so ago?

As a long time HG fan it saddens me how little this band has produced in the last 5-6 years. I miss the days when Forrest would crank out all these awesome FruityLoops songs and remixes. I feel that's when they were at their best. I feel like once the brought in real drums into the recordings, it became this weird mix. I do like the recent 'when we first met' song though but it sounds like a different band (Ra Ra Riot comes to mind).

Here's what I've been liking this past year or so. Let me know if you can recommend similar. Feel free to make fun of me, this is the scenecore thread after all.

Heartsounds - Until We Surrender
http://www.myspace.com/heartsoundsband
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyB7Ln25CyM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUj76IAUdN4
Nice male/female vocal combos and driving pop punk tunes. I feel like this album is perfectly produced too. Every song is pretty much the same.

Fact - In the Blink of any Eye
http://www.myspace.com/factjapan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nr23RWMRnpM
Japanese hyper technical pop-punk/post-hardcore/whatever. It's like a metal band that decided to go a poppier route. Feels similar to FYS and SYG and reminds me of older Boys Night Out at times. Overall, a really solid album.

Polar Bear Club - Chasing Hamburg
http://www.myspace.com/polarbearclub
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbMmU4LA3cs
This took a few listens to grow on me, but it's one of my favorite albums from the past year. Excellent punk rock with strong hooks.

The Forecast
http://www.myspace.com/theforecast
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnWN_cKChzY
I'm a sucker for the male/female vocal combo. I feel this is their best album yet.

Closure in Moscow - First Temple
http://www.myspace.com/closureinmoscow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi08y-A39S0
Very solid musicianship and strong vocals in the same vein as the Mars Volta. Nice to hear a guy who can actually sing. The first 5 songs on the album are very strong.

Emery - In Shallow Seas We Sail
http://www.myspace.com/emery
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zIQuhbOa_A
Finally, I feel Emery is back with something good. That EP they released in 2008 was excellent and I was glad to see this album going in that same direction. I didn't really care for their 2nd and 3rd full lengths.

Helen Earth Band - Our Own Ghost City
http://www.myspace.com/helenearthband
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJ8xKJyseuc
Definitely not Scenecore in any way, but I want to talk about them. Noodly, angular, emo (think late 90's emo) music similar to bands like No Knife and Mock Orange. Features ex-Counterfit members.

I also really liked the new releases by the Swellers, FYS, Half Hearted Hero, Dangerous Summer (guilty pleasure), Jonny Craig, Ken Yoyokama (Hi Standard), Love Hate Hero (not as good as White Lies though), MCS, Of Mice & Men, We Came as Romans, Over Stars and Gutters, Burden of a Day, Scale the Summit, Teenage Bottlerocket, Wonder Years, and Transit.

Without a doubt my favorite band. Apparently when they got back together to play Skatefest earlier this month they were asked about a possible reunion tour and new album and all they could say was "wait and see". Just the fact that they didn't immediately dismiss the talk gives me hope :unsmith:

Also apparently they are releasing a DVD of their "final" show at Lupos from two years ago sometime late this summer.

I've been listening to In Shallow Seas We Sail pretty much non stop for the past week. I wasn't really into it at first but there really isn't anything to not love about this album. Really good comeback from the disappointment of "I Am Only A Man".

Couldn't agree more. Make sure you check out their 2008 EP "While Broken Hearts Prevail". I think they re-recorded one of the EP songs and reused another for the 2009 full length.

I've been a huge fan of the Forecast for a while. "Late Night Conversations" was good, "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen" was great. I didn't like the song they put on their myspace when they released the digital EP, but the songs I've heard from the new one are loving awesome and I definitely need to get this album.

Also, they're a really great live band and really fun, down-to-earth guys (and girl!).

I really don't get the hate for Craig Owens - while I think he's a bit overrated as far as singers go, he has never seemed to be an idiot or douche to me. While I guess there's a reason he was kicked out of Chiodos, I'm optimistic about his new project.

Oh, gently caress yeah. I loved Redeemer and liked The Anti Mother as well, and the first track I've heard from their new CD is awesome. One thing I like about the band is that even though they might be Christian, they don't really write Christian music - it just happens to be their religion, but their music doesn't necessarily reflect that. Sure, I guess some of their lyrics could be read that way, but it isn't too obvious or pandering.

Plus, they seem to be pretty chill and have a nice sense of humor - they're just doing their thing without paying attention to what's popular in the scene right now. I feel a lot better supporting these guys than most other bands in their genre.

The Wonder Years - The Upsides
The Dangerous Summer - Reach for the Sun
B.o.B. - The Adventures of Bobby Ray
The Years Gone By - Forever Comes Too Soon, Something You Know Nothing About, Final 3 Songs
Four Year Strong - Enemy of the World
The Maine - The Way We Talk EP, Inside of You single
Man Overboard - Before We Met, Dahlia, various split tracks
Foxy Shazam - S/T
