Industrial Revelations
Mark Williams, you might know him as Mr. Weasley form Harry Potter hosted the first two seasons. Like the name implies, it's about different aspects of the Industrial Revolution.
This is what I could find so far on the net.

Wonders of the Solar System (I really enjoyed this one)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ta0_7g8_fB8&feature=related

"Wonders of the Solar System: Empire of the Sun. Professor Brian Cox visits some of the most stunning locations on earth to describe how the laws of nature have carved natural wonders across the solar system.

In this first episode Brian explores the powerhouse of them all, the sun. In India he witnesses a total solar eclipse - when the link to the light and heat that sustains us is cut off for a few precious minutes.

But heat and light are not the only power of the sun over the solar system. In Norway, Brian watches the battle between the sun's wind and earth, as the night sky glows with the northern lights.

Beyond earth, the solar wind continues, creating dazzling aurora on other planets. Brian makes contact with Voyager, a probe that has been travelling since its launch 30 years ago. Now 14 billion kilometres away, Voyager has just detected the solar wind is beginning to peter out. But even here we haven't reached the end of the sun's rule.

Brian explains how its greatest power, gravity, reaches out for hundreds of billions of kilometres, where the lightest gravitational touch encircles our solar system in a mysterious cloud of comets."

You'll probably like Wonders Of The Solar System: Order Out Of Chaos too.

I love those BBC docs, just finished the three episodes of BBC Chemistry: A Volatile History, it's about the history of how chemistry went from being the art of alchemists to the compilation of the periodic table and nuclear science. I thought it was a good show.

Follows a platoon of the 503rd Infantry Regiment in the Korengal Valley, the name comes from an outpost named after a soldier from the platoon that was killed around the time the camp was made. During one engagement, one of the men performed like a serious BAMF and was later awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

This is such a great thread, and several recommendations have kept me occupied for hours so far!

However.

Can anyone recommend any documentaries that aren't so depressing? I can only learn so much about Bulgarian orphanages/Canada's horrible treatment of Aboriginals/reasons why we're going to run out of fuel and fall into a world of chaos/stories of global financial ruin before I start feeling like slitting my wrists. A few more along the lines of An Idiot Abroad and Exit Through the Gift Shop, for example.
Not really a documentary, but a good find of something amazing.

Can anyone recommend me some interesting and not-heartbreaking documentaries about the ocean, ocean life, etc? Preferably ones that are available online through something other than Netflix. I work in a nautical museum and we've been streaming ocean-related movies at the entrance, and I've already gone through all of the ocean documentaries on Netflix.

Kids come in here a lot so anything that doesn't have scary/gory/sad stuff in it would be preferred. (The other day I accidentally put something on which featured footage of people cutting sharks' dorsal fins off :ohdear: )

BBC Life episode 4, fish. If you can get it in HD, the sailfish decimating the school of sardines and the slomo flying fish scene are amazing.

You've probably seen it as you've mentioned the series, but the Classic Albums episode on Steely Dans Aja is pretty great for this sort of thing.
