Yeah I don't get it either. I mean, ok great, we're all secure about ourselves enough to watch and enjoy it, and if you do, all the more power to you. I just feel like the forums just had this complete explosion over it, seemingly out of nowhere. People have been comparing it to The Powerpuff Girls (which I actually do really love) in terms of it's "able to break out of it's supposed target audience" spiel,(and yes I'm aware Craig McCracken's wife works on the show) but I watched about 10 minutes of the first episode and...yeah, sorry guys it's sort of just another kid's show to me.

I'm sure it's great for a kiddie show, like Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Lab and all that great stuff from my own childhood, I'm just not sure why everyone's flipping their poo poo over it now. I can't even go back to those old shows for a nostalgia trip without quietly hating how they're made. Is the slightest maturation in tastes outside the norm here? Am I the twenty-something version of a stodgy old snob?

I don't get this part. Do you mean that you have ethical concerns? Stuff like marketing to children, outsourcing to foreign animation studios, and the treatment of animators in said outsource studios?

No, just the style of jokes, sparse audio, pace, and often questionable voice acting. There are tropes and directorial decisions aimed squarely at viewers with limited cultural exposure and I don't care for them. I am no longer the target audience.

This is not to say it's bad content, or that my tastes are somehow better than anyone who can still watch Pinky & The Brain and enjoy it.

Come on man, it all requires suspension of disbelief and it looks kind of cool.

Suspension of disbelief doesn't automatically extend to any and all stupid bullshit the writers and artists want to pull. Lightsabers are awesome in that you can sort of imagine a cone of lasers and they look about like a cone of lasers would look. Making a weapon that is pure light pitch loving black - but ringed with white! - is the dumbest special effect ever canonized.

Lightsabers are slightly impossible. Black lightsabers are so impossible that they're just stupid.

I remember back in the day when Samus being a woman in a skimpy costume beneath her armor was secondary to alien-murderimn' and planet-exploring (and planet-murderin'). Now she's practically in the same class as Morrigan, Mai Shiarnui, and the entire cast of DoA when it comes to overexposed videogame girls.

Masamune Shirow is a huge loving pervert as well as a pornographer.
In order:
- Dear god, the smug levels in that WoW picture are stifling.
- Samus took a huge dive from coincidentally-female badass to yet another gun-toting bimbo when Nintendo rolled out the Zero Suit, and if we're lucky, Team Ninja's awful treatment of the franchise will knock some sense into NOJ and some powered armor back onto the character.
- Masamune Shirow isn't to blame for the DSL and tiptoe stance in that picture. The costume is accurate, but the attitude is out of place.

I took it as read that they didn't care because it's just a body. It would be like saying she drove a hooker car, and in either case she'd probably hit anyone who commented on it.
