"Dwarfs" was the more common spelling before Tolkein started using "dwarves".

Isn't it that "dwarfs" are small real life people and "dwarves" are fantasy axe-wielding miners?

It's that way now, for sure, but "dwarves" wasn't common until Tolkien started using it. From what I remember reading, it was a conscious decision he made to disambiguate the warlike Gimli and Thorin from the subterranean miners and craftsmen of Norse mythology, who weren't terribly aggressive at all.

And like I linked, Disney seems to use "dwarfs" in relation to Happy, Dopey, Doc et. al, and they get very picky about trademarking and copyrighting and poo poo.

:goonsay:, of course

and then it escapes into the atmosphere and bang it's straight into space where it gets to hang out for the next seven billion years until it finds itself in a gas cloud large enough to condense itself into a star again

Actually, it is fan art. The Steampunk Optimus design is from a published comic book, but the figure itself is unlicensed.

Also it got batch-produced and sold - I think as a completed garage kit.
