Yeah FMA was all but wrapped up by chapter 104, but Claymore has so many unresolved things that it seems unlikely that it will end anytime soon. It could be rushed as all the major players are near each other, but it would leave the whole plotline about destroying the organization unresolved. Most likely Clare will escape, they'll have their fight at the end of the series and we'll get another 5 years of monthly cliffhangers between then.

Nate RFB posted:I definitely agree that Claymore is ill-suited for the monthly format. If it were a slightly more cerebral shounen series like Fullmetal Alchemist I'd agree, but as it is it's basically the same as a weekly in terms of pacing, just with more pages. Yeah, it has the pacing of a weekly but there is no way in hell its art could be done in time for that format so a monthly it is.

I read this more or less just for the monster art.

That might have been the case if she had some talent for sensing like Renée, as Renée immediately knew that waking up Luciela/Rafaela was bad news. She could, she just was outside when it happened and it would have been stupidly suicidal to go inside to take it on.

She was also sitting right beside it completely oblivious while Renée poked around inside its mind. Renée knew right away that it was bad news and it seems like it still took awhile for Luciela/Rafaela to actually fully regain consciousness after that. If Riful had Renée's sensing abilities she probably could have killed it right then.

Huh, given the relatively quick pace of the manga, and now that Priscilla is the only antagonist left outside the Organization itself, maybe Clare will actually manage to use the Blob to kill her within the next few chapters. There's even Raki conveniently chilling nearby to come bring her back to humanity after she turns into a monster to do it.

This comic is boring now. They killed off all the interesting shithead characters like Isley and Riful. Now it's just a loving slug fest between SSJ40 Priscilla and Perfect Form Lost's Smoke Monster. The art quality is stellar now but the story got really loving bland.

Theresa was simply named for one of the goddesses. She was never otherwise connected to any deities. The Rafaela fusion thing also identified with that image for fairly obvious reasons. However, that appearance was just a facade that has since been broken; its current form in no way resembles the dual goddesses. Clare's connection to the beastie was that she spent some time in its head before it woke up.

So I just read claymore. It really does feel like its coming to a close. And the monster artwork is great. Are there any collages of all them?

A strange time to suddenly switch stories. I know we haven't seen Miria in a while but I'd like to see what happens with this Priscilla thing! Also looks like Tabitha got a new hair style randomly?

It's like she started wearing her hair like that Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. It used to be just braided over her shoulder. Both her and Miria changed their hair styles since they were introduced. The real question is where Miria got the white getup from. Overall I like this release more than the past few. It's back to actual Claymore fighting each other which was the high point of the comic rather than monsters of increasing strength slapping each other down.

There's actually this image (from about three years ago) for the seven, someone just has to add in names. Oh and I guess it doesn't work for Tabitha anymore though. Tabitha has the single braid, Cynthia has two. Helen's got the short cut with the part in the front. Deneve has the butch-girl do. Yuma has the overly-long flowing anime hair. Miria's rockin' the short ponytail and Clare's got her trademark bob cut. I've never really had problems identifying most of them though. Renee was the chick with the cornrows. Dietrich is Misa from Death Note all grown up. Clarice has the brown hair, Miata is Sadako, and Galatea's got the whole eyes thing going on which probably makes her the easiest to spot. The only two I'm not fully clear on are Audrey and Rachel. I believe Audrey was the manly one with the spiky DBZ hair and the other one kinda resembled pre-timeskip Galatea. I might have missed one though (Nina?).

Why the gently caress would a guy who is incapable of drawing females who look differently make a manga about girls of the same age, size, build, hair color, and general hair styling, wearing the same outfit all the time. And then have a billion of them doing poo poo at the same time.

The only one besides Clair that I can reliably pair a name with a face is Mira. Deneve and Helen are easier right now but that's because we had been focusing on them for so long. The manga was much easier to follow when I didn't have to wait for a monthly release.

The only ones I get mixed up every now and then are Tabitha and Cynthia, as they really do look the same except for one extra/less pigtail. Shouldn't be a problem now, though.

I disagree about the hair style, this is exactly HOW I tell anyone apart in this manga. The hair color is hand-waved by the Youma infusion. The organization was never known for developing the girls personalities. Quite the opposite with Alicia/Beth.

Is this really too hard a concept to follow? The in-universe reasoning is entirely the issue, that's my loving point.

The Awakened Beings are pretty well drawn and varied, maybe he feels like all his effort should go towards that. So he instead makes most of the characters have the same basic design. Not arguing its a good idea, of course. I still think not having it as a weekly series is a bigger issue, though.

# ? Aug 9, 2010 23:58 |

Well, think about it. Character design is obviously his weak point. Mostly indistinguishable designs allow the guy to have a large cast without having to create a distinctive appearance for each one. Now if only more of them actually had personalities...

Christ 107 is the stupidest release yet. She is willing to cut up Tabitha but is too goddamn stupid to figure out this lame trick? Clare figured out the Jean/Raphaela dream sequence within seconds and she isn't even known for being a keen thinker. This series has jumped the loving shark right around when Isley died. If you're going tokill a character off at least keep their downfall true to their motivations.
