Regarding format chat, is there not a good audiobook version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms? I wanted to "read" it this year and I really didn't want my dumb American self to say "Shuuu..Sheeee?" at every proper noun.

I really want to read fiction and become immersed in a book, but i won't let myself :( Because i have to learn technical things in my free time or life will suck.

That does suck, I'm sorry.

Especially since I just found out William Gibson, my favorite fiction writer, has a new book out.

Do you mean like this, or still too trivial?

I'm starting up book six of Aubrey Maturin and I've come to realize my absolute favorite parts are when the author reintroduces us to Jack and Stepehen by some illustrative scene; playing cricket, borrowing money, visiting a paymaster. They're short scenes filled with the essence of the characters and it sends a wave of recognition and pleasure over me every time.

Can anyone recommend a small business book store with a robust website I could use to order books from instead of Amazon? If not, I'd settle for an affiliate amazon link. In the South, maybe New Orleans or Mobile, would be ideal, but otherwise anywhere in the USA is fine. I already googled my area and the only private book store I know of doesn't have a web site. I asked my irl friends and we've all just bought books on Amazon for decades, oops.

Wow these are expensive. I can rent one from Amazon for 20 bucks.

Edit: oh is this considered a textbook?

Edit2: it’s over 2300 pages holy cow.

They're so, so good, I've had some from my community college classes and they become all I read in my free time during those semesters. Not just the works themselves but essays, biographies, etc.
