I tapped out in the middle of Season 2, but I heard the show got much better by the end, so maybe I'll go back and finish it at some point.

I'm convinced that the reason people say that is because the only the diehard fans stuck around after season 2. They are sort of like the people that say the Simpsons is still good.

Don't watch Korra, the people who say its gets better for season 3/4 are the people who decided to keep on watching the series despite how terrible season 1 and 2 were. Its like people who say current Simpsons isn't so bad anymore.

Anybody reading the Avatar/Korra comics? Some of them really miss the mark, but the latest ones from both sides are pretty interesting (with the latest Avatar one dealing with a bender vs non bender situation, and the latest Korra one dealing with the remnants of Kuvira's big ol' Earth Empire).

Plus the fact they're coming out with a Kyoshi book pretty soon gives me hope people are gonna realize the 'expanded universe' potential Avatar has. The fact people haven't expanded it a la the Star Wars EU is really a shame.

Korra, (and the M. Night Shyamalan movie) kind of killed any potential future for the franchise. I know some people argue that it allegedly got better for the third season. Regardless if that is true or not, it doesn't mean anything if nobody watched it. The ratings tanked hard when compared to the premiere episode.

Yeah, if nothing else I am glad they're establishing it as a narrative show off the bat. I know I've bitched about it in other threads but I think that's a much better approach than the Steven Universe/Star vs./Adventure Time kind of format of "silly show then hard swerve to serious town later".

Steven Universe/Adventure Time were much better when they weren't so heavily focused on the narrative though. Although, I do admit that Adventure Time might have been better if it was more serious from the start.

Also, whatever happened with that weird west show that somebody posted a trailer of awhile back? It looked interesting.

Regular Show? Korra? (Even though neither have the "the entire cast's age is in the single digits" problem, they're in the spirit of having bizarrely complicated relationship plots that don't matter to anything).

edit: I remember thinking "oh okay not having a perfect relationship forever with the first person you love isn't a bad message to send to kids" but when it got to the third show with this theme I started to wonder.

No, I'm more thinking of spending a bunch of time on a romance between a 12-13 year old boy and a much older girl. The joke in season 2 more seemed like the creators realizing how creepy it was after realizing how creepy it was in season 1.

Amphibia's release schedule is fine. Its not like Cartoon Network's habit of releasing only like 5 episodes at a time, and then having like 6 months or much longer before the next batch is released. Its not like they are dumping the entire show at once either.

Mr. Mayor is going to be revealed to be a total sleazebag, and one of the ongoing plots will be his attempts at re-election which must be stopped.

Also, HIM will be an attractive man that looks completely normal except maybe his suit is red. Possibly has a British accent.

One of the cast members from the original show will be murdered by the end of the first episode. Possibly their Kindergarten teacher.

There's probably a connection here between the hunger for serialized American cartoons and the early 2000s explosion in anime piracy but I don't really know enough to articulate it.

I think the fact that anime is willing to target an older demographic has a lot to do with it. In the early 2000s, western cartoons (non-comedy) that targeted anybody older than a tween were basically non-existent. (Western cartoons that target an older audience are still pretty rare even now.)

I have zero attachment to the He-Man franchise. It was just a lovely toy commercial from before I was born. However, I don't see the point of having a He-Man tv show without He-Man in it. At that point, it seems like it should just be its own original thing. (Its because media is currently way too risk averse and nobody wants to create an original IP)

The sensible thing to do, is that if you want a property to be a tax write-off, you need to let it enter public domain, but nobody is going to let that happen because they will still want to cling onto IPs they will never use.

I assume it has to do with Hollywood accounting so movies that are a hit can be shown aren't in fact hits and thus studios don't need to pay taxes on them, or something.

That's a different strategy. They offload company-wide unrelated expenses on a production, so its impossible for it to be profitable.

so i sort of lied. i said i was gonna watch zombie island yesterday but alas, certain issues arose that made it difficult to watch. but fortunately i was able to rectify that by watching it tonight!

like i said earlier, i haven't watched this in a long rear end time, but watching it again, i'm very pleased to say it's aged like fine wine. the movie is more than 20 years old now and the animation is still nigh perfect. it's lush, vivid, with beautiful backdrops and very nice shading with very fluid animation. the soundtrack still kicks rear end, and the plot and overall story are both well crafted.

something i didn't know was that this was handled by veterans who worked on S.W.A.T. Kats and The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest. this actually makes a lot of sense because the movie was animated by Mook, who did the animation for the second seasons of both shows (the human designs were very reminiscient of the characters in johnny quest, while the monster/zombie designs were similar to SK). also, apparently the script for the movie was based off a planned episode of SK, which is where the cat theme apparently came from :monocle: it seems it was a genuine passion project for a lot these guys. :unsmith:

i'm not someone who would consider himself a fan of the scooby doo franchise in general, but ZI is top tier poo poo.

Art style also looks very close to Batman the Animated Series and there was some staff shared between the two productions.

Adult Swim also is harder to fold in with the other animation divisions and has a weird side gig as a videogame publisher.

I'm not sure about that. Reality TV shows are much more popular among women than men which is part of the reason he tried to justify a focus on non-scripted stuff.
