I love me some Kipo but the line ”you can’t win wars by fighting them!” is the most birdbrained poo poo I’ve heard in a LONG time. Yes, you can actually win wars. It’s just a very ugly process which is why peaceful solutions are preferable. Also Kipo was 100% correct to try to destroy the boat. It was a relatively non-violent way to crush the human’s ability to wage war and would have made negotiating a long term peace much more possible, not less because it would literally be the human’s only option at that point.

General consensus seems to be 'Disney doesn't do more than three seasons per animated show'.

I suspect Covid and Disney taking it in the pants from their theme parks being closed may factor into it as well. Animation is super expensive and it wouldn't surprise me to hear that they're shifting focus to projects that are cheaper and easier to produce for a while.

OTOH animation is something I imagine you could do from home unlike live action so who the hell really knows.

That seems to be a trend with a lot of their shows.

Disney XD is basically what Boomerang is for CN. It's a place they can send shows that aren't getting high enough ratings to squeeze a few last dollars out without having to take up space on their flagship station. Moving an ongoing show to XD or Boomerang is basically a pre-cancellation move so this shouldn't have been surprising.

Dang that was a good season if Hilda. Very excited to watch season three in like 3 years if I don't die from one of the six apocalypses coming our way.

Troll mom would not get her baby back from me in that situation. It is precious and my son and I would die to protect it.

Also did the character design for the Jorts vending machine guy weird anybody else with how much he looks like an aged up version of David? I kept expecting one of them to recognize the other as an uncle or something but that never happened so now my current theory is that he's David from the future. There's no evidence supporting this, I've just decided that's what's happening and you won't be able to convince me otherwise.

I mean come on they both even have the same weird little hair loop thing!

It's kind of incredible how much Nickelodeon sucks in an industry largely known for how badly it treats it's staff/properties. I'm not kidding when I say that I would never pitch a show to them even if I knew I could get it greenlit. gently caress Nickelodeon.

Kid Cosmic is pretty fun, but kinda shallow. I guess when I first saw it was only 10 episodes I was surprised, but then when it got going, I understood how it wasn't really working to elaborate all that much on these characters' daily lives. The running theme of Kid getting all his worldly knowledge from comic books was neat, but it does feel weird that they put so much weight on Kid having a stockpile of comics from a genre and era before I was born. I think it might've been from before my parents were born even.

I do really love all the aesthetics though. The colors are neat, the way so many of the scenes are framed is intriguing, and the music is wonderfully weird. It actually even reminded me of Genndy Tartakovsky's work from just how much went into the raw aesthetics of a scene.

Also the series showed how Netflix doesn't really have normal television S&P, because when the army shows up, they just plain have normal M-16s and they shoot things with them. Also some of the aliens get pretty badly maimed, even if it was never gory or anything.

:allears:

E: Spoilering for content. Yes that's right, I'm spoilering Kid Cosmic (rated TV-Y7) because the imagery might be a bit too graphic for some.

Not sure what you've already seen but:

-Infinity Train is A+ and needs a 4th season god damnit!
-Kid Cosmic is the current series I won't shut up about
-Over the Garden Wall is a classic and very worth watching
-Justice League/Unlimited starts episodic but in Unlimited gets a pretty good plot going.
-Wakfu takes about half a season to find it's footing but once it gets going it's great. Nox randomly becomes one of the best villains ever out of nowhere 2/3rds through Season 1. The computer animation gets better I swear.
-Dofus is a side story to Wakfu and has an accompanying movie. Both are fantastic (Better than Wakfu in my opinion) and are highly recommended if you can find them. You don't need to have watched Wakfu to follow it.

Craig of the Creek is getting a fourth season and Craig's little sister Jessica is getting a spin-off series.

Very weird to see a spinoff aimed at a younger demographic who probably have never seen the original show but I have no objections to it or anything. Also I guess that this is the start of CN's push towards entering the preschool programing market so we'll probably be seeing a lot of announcements like this.

More a kid's movie than a kid's show but Arlo the Aligator boy is out on Netflix and is pretty fun. My only real gripes are that the hillbilly villains are dumb and 2 dimensional (but also barely in the movie so who cares) and the bus full of side characters is a bit undercooked for how important they're supposed to be. Towards the end they're suddenly going "we're a family now kid!" and I'm like "when did THAT happen!? You sung one song and gave him a ride to the city". Not huge problems though and on the whole it's super charming and fun in addition to being pretty to look at. Definitely worth a watch.
