High Contrast is doing three live shows (As in live instruments and vocals) in the UK this week (Cardiff, London and Manchester). Here's some short clips of them rehearsing:

Logistics has a new album out today called Hologram and it's...fine? Like it's not poorly done or anything, it's just not hitting me anywhere near as hard as Electric Sun did. It's kinda boring, which is the last thing I'd usually think to call a Logistics album

Also at 16 tracks and 68 minutes, it's kinda long too, which if I was feeling it, I wouldn't mind whatsoever, but I'm not so much, so it feels its length.

There's a couple tracks I really dig on here, like this one and the title track (which I don't think is on YouTube yet), but otherwise it's just whatever.

Been listening to singles as they came out, and while I enjoyed them, they all seemed so....similar. It's good and I'll probably listen to a fair bit....loved Polyphony, so maybe this new will grow on me.

OH SNAP!

I think its pretty quality. Nothing new sound wise but its drat good, he's refined this sound to a formula and you can tell. Lotus Flower, In Your Eyes and Signs are great on my first listen.

Gotta wait til I can jam it in the car come summertime to give it a proper review though

I just finished jamming to Electric Sun in the car again and it's pretty jarring how almost every track on that album is a standout for me while Hologram barely seemed to have any of those, but yeah, I guess I'll have to give it another chance one of these days.

It just didn't give me that initial "holy poo poo this is loving EXCELLENT all the way through" vibe that Electric Sun did and still does.

Anyone got any 12" Jungle or DnB they're putting up for sale not too far from London? I'll drive up to you too. My house and trance collection is growing, but I haven't found much DnB yet.

Edit: nvm actually, wrong thread for that kind of thing.

You're probably already aware of it but Discogs has a pretty massive marketplace and you can search by shipping location (Country only unfortunately but I guess you can message the sellers to see where they're at): https://www.discogs.com/sell/list?g...om&format=Vinyl

Some newish stuff I'm enjoying:

Trei and Tali - Rebels
I saw Trei live a couple of years back (Blackout A/NZ tour maybe) and he delivered a killer set. Love Tali's vocals which are really matched well with the beats.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xa8aYfOQLJY

Sinister Souls Feat. Gein - Epilepsy
I like my D&B hard as gently caress and this track delivers. Good stuff by Sinister Souls but really it's Gein who brings it together for me as his awesome style bleeds right through.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vL7azmYWlgY

A.M.C and Turno - Draw 4 That
Some heavy jump-up with a twist: they worked a fun little skit into the track.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQXAZ8LCUt8

Also I had a listen to Hologram and yeah, overall it's kind of underwhelming really. There is one stand-out track though which just exudes raw classic Logistics (Like 2005-2007 Thunderchild/Everything Is Illuminated/Search Engine): In Your Eyes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQXAZ8LCUt8

If you're a fan of Logistics then I'd recommend digging through his back-catalog if you haven't done so already. There's a lot of exceptional stuff from what I'm calling Hospital Records' golden age: 2003-2007.

Blocks & Escher finally dropped their album and it is justifiably gorgeous. Not too Narratives, never too Metalheadz; they crafted something utterly sublime.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAGEYahyIgs

Complex drum patterns complement the hauntingly melodic vibes while you float away from typical 170 tropes. Ebbs and flows catapult beneath you. Is this D&B or IDM?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEnJkRvYTFI

That doesn't mean there isn't anything dancefloor ready, the title track, hell the whole thing, knocks it out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdMjVvq4O94

There aren't too many D&B albums that are, well, albums. B&E crafted one for the ages. Listen to whole thing, support if you want.

It's well-crafted for sure, just a bit too on the minimal side for my tastes and not an album I'm likely to throw on often or anything. But yeah, the moods they create with this thing are creepy and different and interesting. They cover some ground on this that definitely no D&B artist I've heard in years has come close to treading.

I think you're spot on about the IDM comparison. This mostly reminds me more of 90s IDM than it does D&B, or contemporary D&B at least. It has D&B style breaks, but it doesn't play like D&B to me.

It sounds like it belongs in a museum or a haunted house or something. The sound design on this thing is nuts.

I've noticed over the last 2-ish years that this downtempo D&B style has been steadily gaining popularity as well as evolving (Which IMO is fantastic). At first it was just simple ambient/minimal half-time but the predominant style has gradually shifted in tone becoming darker and, for lack of a better word, sinister. I like to call it "spooky D&B" but I think it's just more commonly referred to as downtempo. I might be a bit off the mark here as whilst I consume a lot of D&B I'm still kind of in a bubble and not entirely across the less mainstream sounds.

Edit: this teaser for the track Assembler from Mefjus' upcoming album Manifest loving owns.

lmao, so Pendulum released the Knife Party remix of Blood Sugar and it's pretty loving terrible, but since Knife Party is just Rob and Gareth of Pendulum anyway, I guess it's them doing a piss poor job of remixing their own song

It's not a drum n bass remix, not that it has to be, but it lost all the energy and momentum of the original.

Thank loving god that's the only Knife Party remix on the upcoming remix album.

Wasn't it Zinc instead of Hype that made that bootleg? Remix. Whatever. Anyway time and a place will seal a legacy regardless of ultimate quality.

Recent-ish comparable being Skream's remix of LaRoux maybe? Not actually that good but man was it hyped back then. Probably one of the last tunes to get a HTFR bootleg too I'd imagine.

On the cusp of something good....

I was minding my own business making weird IDM Jungle stuff and a Juke label tapped me for an EP.

I really only did lo-fi and bitcrushed break chopping with crappy mixing so it ended up taking me forever to learn how bass handling worked and how to mix decently enough to get it done to DJ standards.

It came out about a month ago, and I tried to make something less for the hardcores and more for general listening. I'd post it in the 160 thread but that thread is just waiting to die.

http://music.goodstreetrecords.com/...can-do-the-work

It's not really getting a ton of traction because I'm an unknown in a city that doesn't do Footwork, but I aimed it partially at Konkrete Jungle dudes. I got to remix unreleased instrumental songs by Giovanni Marks (Subtitle) and Thavius Beck (Adlib)

Orko Eloheim hopped on a track, as well as Riddlore from Project Blowed. There's remixes by Jamie Thompson (Unicorns, Islands, Esmerine) under his collaborative Whateverly Bros moniker and also LB Sand, a Liquid and Garage dude from Reno.

The label's in Leeds and tends to put out Jungle and Jazz oriented 160 bpm stuff. If you poke around their roster I'd highly recommend checking out Ventah and DJ Beno.

I find it very satisfying how there's Footwork that scratches that itch for 1993 Jungle vibes.
