Did anyone here go to Red Rocks in Colorado? I know it wasn't really a D&B gig but holy poo poo their VFX setup was mental. My mate found out that one of his tracks was dropped by Excision with custom visuals, god drat: https://www.facebook.com/michael.pizzino.7/videos/10155603415172064/

Once again, Hospital has music in the new Forza Horizon game and they put out their whole soundtrack as an album. It's 20 brand new tracks from practically everyone on their roster. Some really nice tracks on there, like Keeno's Brave Face, Etherwood's Haltija, Hugh Hardie's Offshore and Lakeway's Stomp Your Soul, though I can't post YouTube links to any of those because they don't seem to be on there yet.

Well, here's an unofficial upload of Haltija:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFcADacAG30

The soundtrack's on all the streaming services, though. It's listed as various artists on Spotify at least, but just search "Forza Horizon 4" and you'll find it.

Doesn't sound like these artists necessarily wrote these tracks any differently so they'd fit in a video game. Drum & bass just happens to make great video game music, especially for a racing game :v:

I wish I had an Xbox so I could play the game. Seems like there's a ton of good music in it. Hospital's just one of several radio stations you can listen to in it.

Can confirm. Need for Speed: Most Wanted (the first one) had a bunch of tracks from Human Imprint :D

Here's the release on Beatport: https://www.beatport.com/release/forza-horizon-4-hospital-soundtrack/2398098. You weren't joking, that's pretty much the entire Hospital roster! Also found a full mix here (Track list with time codes in description):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dprV2nWYR-s

I skipped straight to that London Elektricity track and woah. Also peep Metrik's track, god drat!

As you mentioned it's certainly not a "composed for the game" situation like when Noisia did the soundtrack for DMC but it's still fantastic music!

I'm really digging Mitekiss' debut record which came out today. It has a very classic, minimalist DNB feel to it. Like I'm listening to it and it's transporting me back to like 12 or 13 years ago when I first started listening to drum & bass and reminding me of some of the first releases I ever heard.

I don't get that vibe from many new releases that come out nowadays.

If I'm being honest, Sub Zero's remix of Monsters has me a bit underwhelmed. The original is hard to top, to be fair.

Honestly I tried to get into Whiney's album but nothing about it felt right and those four tracks you've picked are the only good ones in the set (Amulet is very good). IMO he was trying to do too much in the one release. The structure of the album is haphazard at best and it's almost like he's crammed as many styles as possible into the thing. Some of the tracks are extremely derivative and the shift between them is crazy jarring (See track 9-10/11).

That aside, Was A Be's latest EP on Shogun Audio is brilliant. It's what Whiney should have been aiming for when it comes to variety and flow. Here's 3/4 of the tracks from the EP, my personal favourite is Unexpected: https://soundcloud.com/shogunaudio/sets/was-a-be-overstep-ep

I posted about this album in the EDM thread, but Koan Sound's new album Polychrome is loving great. Stylistically it covers a lot of different ground, but there's some excellent DNB on this thing that might appeal to some of y'all.

Is there a DnB scene in NYC? I feel like every party I hear about is mainly a deep house sort of thing and I'm really looking to dance fast.

The best I could do in the past 12 months was when Q-bert played a DnB set in Philly I trekked down for, but I had to tolerate 4 hours of bad dubstep before he came on

NYC certainly used to have a Dn'B scene (Jungle Sky Records/Liquid Sky Records being one of the earliest US Dn'B labels before it fizzled out,) but I have no clue about today.

I'm the North American distributor for Ohm now, so AMA or hit me up if there's a release of artist you're interested in. A lot of the old guard are up to no good again, but also a lot of recent releases have been more ambient stuff like classic Scorn instead of full on dnb. It's been a mixed bag this year, tbh.

Velos and NLIC did just drop a really good release.

Thanks for this! I have it downloaded and I'll check it out later.

What drum & bass albums/releases do y'all have on your favorites of the year list?

For me it's Mitekiss' Crate Six Seven, the Hospital Forza Horizon soundtrack, Inja's Blank Pages and Danny Byrd's Atomic Funk (which I wasn't too hot on when it first came out but listened to it more and came around on it a lot).

I listened to Cyantific's Bloodline again because I thought I may have been too hard on it when I first heard it in the summer, but it just doesn't have the creativity/energy that the others have IMO. It's fine and not a bad album, it's just not special to me in the ways the others are.

I'll have to think on it, I consumed a lot of D&B this year so I'll have to go all back through it. That said looking only at LPs Manifest (VSN035), Mefjus' second album, deffo springs to mind for textbook esoteric neuro which is extremely my jam. Also Low Down Deep Recording's aptly-named 100th release compilation, Low Down Deep 100 (LDDR100), is a great collection of straight jump-up.

Edit: just remembered, until further notice my track of the year is Combination by Filip Motovunski. Just can't get enough of that hook!

The gig is 19:00-23:00 on a Thursday night in a seated arena which IMO sounds kinda lame as I'm very much used to gigs in open clubs that run from like 21:00 to 04:00.
