EMUpirate posted:Echo'ing Manoli, there are a lot of really bad MC's at local or rave events. I've been to quite a few shows where the MC didn't know when to shut up and would throw some random lines at really odd times then run around like he was a bad rear end. The pro's know the right time to get everybody hyped up and when to shut up. Also your example is kinda strange, do you just mean vocals in dnb period? or vocals by MC's? I'm by no means in the "everything high contrast touches is gold" crowd, but High Society is a great tune. To get it out of the way, I enjoy High Contrast album material, his whitelabels and remixes just sound so darn...poppy? Maybe that's the point though, whatever though. Yeah my example wasn't that good that song just sticks out in my mind whenever I think of MC's. Dynamite MC is pretty good however the actual lyrics in High Society were pretty daft.

So I haven't heard much talk of Mistabishi in this thread so far (There was a bit of chat in the other thread). I listened to Printer Jam back when it first dropped and was hooked. I grabbed his album "Drop" as soon as it came out and was very impressed. My favourite tracks are The Light's Really Bad and White Collar Grime (Which is probably one of the filthiest dubstep tracks I've heard). Mistabishi seems to have slowed down somewhat these days which I think is due in part to the "scandal" back in October last year where he played a pre-recorded mix at a show and pretended to DJ through the whole thing (http://www.mixmag.net/content/drum-n-bass-dj-mistabishi-faces-miming-accusations). I feel sorry for Mistabishi as I really love his music and it seems like he has been mentally put back by that whole incident. Edit: Mistabishi's latest track, Millwall, recently featured on Sick Music 2 (Hospital Records). It is more of a breakbeat track and feels very disjointed but it's still not bad. Got an email from Hospital Records a few days ago announcing that Kamo & Crooked have released a new LP "Climax" (NHS168):Hospital Records Press Release posted:Making a huge impact on the world of Drum+Bass in a short space of time with releases on Viper, Techique, Audio Porn, Urban Takeover and Beta, Camo & Krooked continue to impress. Following on from the massive "Turn Up (The music)" on Hospital’s recent Sick Music 2 album, the Austrian duo hit straight back with a solo 12” on Hospital. I haven't really listened to Kamo & Crooked much myself but those previews above are tight.

Anyway here is some new stuff from Moleman: Moleman - Free Moleman & Modu - Our World Moleman - Burst I've been talking to Moleman a bit recently and he is a good bloke. Currently he is trying to get signed with Hospital/Med School so if anyone can provide any tips it would be great.

So Black Sun Empires new album, Lights and Wires, was released earlier this week. I'm really digging it so far. There is an excellent mix of dark yet ambient dubstep (Black River Empire, Mindslide) and heavier D&B (Inpeak, Extraction). Head over to http://www.blacksunempire.com/ if you want to have a listen.

I know he's a pretty popular guy, so he must be doing something right, but I just can't figure out what it is. I'm not a huge fan of Noisia either, but Machine Gun's a pretty catchy track that I just got into. I figured I could give the Spor remix a listen, and I liked for the most part what I was hearing but I don't understand him. Which Spor tracks in particular would say are "big build-up, weak drop"? I just re-listened to a bunch of Spor tracks and got the exact opposite impression.

New Years Eve is almost upon us and where I live, Western Australia, that usually means a massive D&B gig. This year the biggest is probably Origin which I mentioned earlier in the thread. Unfortunately I left it too late to make any arrangements to go to Origin so instead I'm just having a BBQ with my mates. To compensate for my organisational failure I'll be cranking it to 11 in an poor attempt to make my own "massive D&B gig". So my question is: what tracks will you be dropping to bring in the new year?

Dr. Goonstein posted:I am currently in love with Noisia & Phace's new track Program. As I've said earlier in this thread, I really don't care for a lot of the darker side of drum and bass, but I love the stuff Noisia put outs. It sometimes takes a few plays of a song before I can honestly say "yeah, i like this track" when it comes to this stuff, but it is growing on me. Hell yes I've been waiting for Noisia to release that track since I heard the preview on Break 1Xtra. That drop is awesome. This may be a bit late and apologies if it has already been brought up earlier in the thread but I was just wondering if anyone else has heard Chase & Status's most recent album No More Idols? I just grabbed a copy of it today and I have to say it is definitely a departure from their usual style if compared to their last album More Than Alot. Still the album stands out as a testament to Chase & Status's versatility. Genre-wise the tracks are all over the place which isn't nescessarily a bad thing. As an example Chase & Status Feat. Sub Focus & Takura - Flashing Lights is pretty trancey with a hint of dubstep while Chase & Status Feat. Plan B - End Credits is a heavy hitting yet slightly liquid vocal D&B track. Having a soft-spot for grime I enjoyed seeing Tempa T featuring in the track Hypest Hype although it may not be for everyone (TTEEEEEMMPZZZZ). The two tracks featuring Plan B, Fool Yourself and End Credits, are pretty much identical stucturally to Pieces from More Than Alot however they are still heavy hitters. There isn't really a single track that can neatly sum up this album and for many the majority of them will be hit-and-miss but I like to think that it has something for everyone. Edit: huh just realised that the video clip for End Credits that I linked features scenes from the movie Harry Brown. Great movie and well worth a watch. (Yes yes I know Hospital/Med School are rubbish etc.) Last month Med School signed a new producer, "Lung": http://www.medschoolmusic.com/lung-signs-to-med-school/. Apparently he's been producing since 2008 and recently his track "Relapse" was featured on "New Blood 011". I had a quick listen to Relapse and thought it was pretty bland and boring. I think it is amusing that Lung is producing stuff like this when Noisia, BSE and Calyx are listed as "favourites" on his Med School page: http://www.medschoolmusic.com/artists/lung/.

Dr. Goonstein posted:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwF4R9Cmvc0 The track started off ok until about 0:45 when the gimmicky dubstep wavy bass or whatever it's called kicked in. Never really been a fan of dubstep/drumstep (In fact I can't tell them apart) so I hope this isn't the direction Evol Intent is taking. Dr. Goonstein posted:Not sure what the exact question is here, but if you are talking about what kind of sub-genre (of the sub-genre) they are, I am pretty sure they are more neurofunk than anything. I am not the most familiar with Black Sun Empire, but they have a couple cool tracks I like. Both of those tracks are from BSE's newer album, Lights and Wires, which is where they started to change stylistically leaning more to the dubstep side of things(Don't get me wrong though I still love the album). If you like Endangered Species and Driving Insane then have a look at Cruel & Unusual which has much the same vibe as Driving Insane. Outside of albums I just did some digging around and found some other great tracks: Dom & BSE - Sparta: featured on Dom & Roland's album Through The Looking Glass this is an immense track. I love the driving bassline however it can start to wear a little thin after a few back-to-back replays. Telemetrik Feat. BSE - Magnet: featured on Telemetrik's album My Lightyear I really think Telemetrik and BSE collaborated well on this track. PS: even though I love BSE to bits my favourite track from Endangered Species is still Jade - Unexist.

So I was just hitting up some tracks on YouTube recently and happened to stumble across a producer known as Muffler. I've never heard of this guy nor heard any tracks by him so I had a look at a few and they are pretty good (Can You Feel, Cold World and Uplifter are pretty good). I looked Muffler up on Discogs and from what I can see the last EP he released was in 2010 under Spearhead Recordings. The tracks I linked above all seem to have been released in 2010 which seems to be the same time that he dropped off the radar. Has anyone ever heard of him before? Does he produce under a different name these days? I'd love to know what happened to the guy.
