DC's second run of the name is wrapping up in a week or so, but the guys that ran it are going to continue doing a dnb/dubstep night at the same venue, same consistancy, just a different name. The main Konkrete was hitting them up for dues (something like $100 a month to use the name), and the guys in DC were doing the party as a free event for over the past year.

I spent my entire loving schoolyear looking for this type of thing, and I find it two weeks after break starts. Give me more info, I had one good night at Club24 but there must have been less than 50 people there, 10 of them being my friends/group.

I haven't done any new dnb mixes in almost a year though, but, check them out and see what you think.

I grabbed your stuff and I'll give it a whirl later on today.

This: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7GZV0mTvNU ? Really? It the guy from loving Porcupine Tree singing some inane inspirational lyrics over a loving limp beat and completely awful synths. Like, the break actually sounds completely off at times. And more than just being a terrible track, it's utterly undanceable, not a dnb song in any way. I'd be actually embarrassed if someone caught me listening to this.

WMG took it down, and after your glowing review I was really steeling myself to having my opinion of Porcupine Tree shattered. What a shame?

I'm surprised no one has posted Shimon. Much more my style over High Contrast but I only really blast DnB for parties. Is he not a part of the genre and I'm just stupid?

Also, I have a question. Does anyone know how to xstep, dnb step, whatever the gently caress you feel like calling it? (seriously 4 people from 4 different countries had different English translations of what it was, but all knew it when they saw it) I'd really like to get better at it, but frankly don't have a clue where to begin.

Also, for any of you still working DJs in DC/MD/VA find a way to keep us updated. I would go out dancing 4 days of the week if I could find a drat venue. Hell, artists everywhere for that matter. Everyone I know is so into this scene and dance/electro clubbing rather than top40 clubs, but wherever we find ourselves it's impossible to find a venue that plays music we really jam out to.

If you make it over the states and come down to DC, I'll take you to U Hall. It's what I wish all the sound systems in this city were like.

Club 24 is a mess, probably a front and the owner just wants money coming through. The process to get the proper power rating to the building is supposedly minimal amount of work. The one show I played there, the promoter paid for a bunch of extra sound, friend of mine was running one of those systems and just complained about what a waste it was to bring in the gear they did.

When you played there do you remember two dudes and a bunch of ugly girls that handed you a note? If you do tell me what that note said. If you're the DJ that was there on the one night I have been, and a goon, I will literally fall over dead from what-a-small-world-disease.

e: o god so lame :negative:

My advice would be - Don't. It looks retarded (unless you're really good at it, but even then, you look like a poser.) Just dance how the music makes you move naturally.

It makes me feel less retarded without chemical assistance. Also this doesn't really make sense. What if how I move naturally is dnb step? :psyduck: I mean you're talking about looking like a poser? Boo, come on man 8th grade is dead and buried.

Also, those big 1 hour loops of music went over well tonight at my friends party. We event went out and got glowsticks and everything. Good times and good tunes, thanks for all the recommendations :)

I played opening week, back in March, didn't get a note, but I know two goons that were there (NeverGirls and 2beans). I was hanging out in the booth the night Nadastrom & Tittsworth played though, and I think someone passed one of them a note during their set, but I didn't see it.

Wow dude that's really psychedelic that you were there, last place ever I would have expected inadvertent goon meet. Cheers.

D.Kay is pretty chill too. I think I've already mentioned him in here, but in case I haven't, he's got kind of a jazz fusion/DNB crossover thing going on for the most part:

He's only got one album out that I know of (Individual Soul), but it's real solid and you should definitely check it out if you're looking for chiller DNB.

He did a mix for a podcast a while back.

It's very, very sick.

I'm on the fence about purchasing it. What's the most similar song / artist you can give me? The tracks I've listened to on youtube have left me sort of meh.

also is there a way to get better than 128kbps versions?

That was the last tune of the 3rd Rail Radio guys, although I like The Police. Actually, if you ever check out Joe Nice's radio show, he always starts with something classic & non-dubstep, just to kind of reset the mood. Actually, I've seen him do this at parties too.

And no better quality from WMUC :/

The mixes I record myself are 320 though.

It wasn't a complaint just a surprise, it's all good. The DL link on tumblr is a 128 joint stereo according to iTunes.

E: also starscape photos / opinions or whatever! I need to live vicariously through people that went.

I had to drop it, too much going on this summer (vacation, guests in town, also got in to grad school a couple weeks ago). Might resurrect Break The Science as a monthly podcast once things settle for me.

However, I will be on Expansion Broadcast (https://www.expansionbroadcast.com) next Friday (July 30th), and I'm working on one or two mixes (probably not dnb for those) for some DC-area blogs. EXBC has several older dnb and dubstep sets of mine, too.

You break my heart, and yeah Im listening to EXBC right now.

I used to just go by Ransom, nowadays I go by Harry Ransom. I post mixes in this thread and the dubstep thread fairly often.

Corrupt Souls feat. Ransom - "Broadcast" on the second Corrupt Souls EP. The track was just me and Marcio/Telemetrik, but it was released as a Corrput Souls tune for various reasons. I also have a collab on the Sinthetix compilation, tune called "Breach" I did with them and UFO! from S.F. That one was mainly Rob F putting a bunch of our crazy ideas and random samples together. I had a couple other things with UFO!, Telemetrik and MRN (Matt Nordstrom), but we never finalized releases on any of it, or just didn't finish it. That Corrupt Souls tune "Samsara" was based on a big vocal sample that I gave Marcio, to possibly work on a tune, but he churned "Samsara" out in like two days. Also, my old roommate releases as SGNL, and he used to be in Robot Death Squad with Hybris. Played around in the studio with them too, but nothing ever finished.
