Bought a used 2013 XC-90 last year with 110k on it and a stack of dealer maintenance records. It's got 135k on it now and going strong but is there a anything that's getting ready to explode on me in the near term?

I haven't been following the newer cars yet but so far I've heard nothing but good things. Swedespeed tends to stay on top of the new cars, you could check out the forum for your car and see what they're discussing.

Wait, that's still the P2 platform. They got it pretty bulletproof by then. What engine does it have?

3.2 straight 6 which is a gem. smooth, decent power and likes to rev. Glad to hear that this isn't a ticking time bomb and I'll def take a look at swedespeed.

Anybody know where I can find the the major service intervals for an xc90? The owners manual isn’t helpful and the dealer I go to is real secret squirrel about it and loves to “surprise” me with some 1500 dollar must do service.

Here’s a question for any transmission fluid experts out there. My P2 XC90 has an Aisin automatic in it that needs a fluid flush. I went out and got a jws3309 spec fluid (Mobil) to do it only to find out my model year, 2013, requires a jws3324 spec fluid since it changed specs in 2011. Does anyone know if they’re both compatible or should I eat the hundred bux and get the correct number?

Edit: never mind. RTFM and it calls for the stuff I got. Whooo

Figured I'd do the haldex fluid in the xc90 since it's got 150k on it now and after fighting the pump forever I finally got it out only to see that the fluid was practically brand new. Jokes on me I guess.

Would living in a place where the AWD system doesn't get used much prolong the life of said fluid?

My wife's XC-90 does this too. Didn't know what the hell was going on when we first bought it but figured it was something to do with cabin cooling or what LloydDobler mentioned when it didn't immediately explode or zap the battery.

Just had the bolt that holds the alternator drive gear back out on my P2 xc-90 3.2. I managed to fix it but now I have a CEL that won't go away. Will a regular OBD2 reader pull that code or am I looking at going to the dealer or eBay VIDA/DICE solution?

I'm in New Mexico but thanks! This might be a good time to check out the Volvo specialist in abq I've been thinking about trying.

Speaking of Ali express knockoffs is there a generally agreed upon "good" one to get?

Anyone with a p2 Volvo ever get an AWD DISCONNECTED-SERVICE REQUIRED message? That just popped up on my 2013 xc-90 and swedespeed is generally saying it varies between pretty expensive to :dogbutton:

So I had my xc90 diagnosed by a local and very good indy shop and they said it was the Haldex pump that was bad. They wanted 1100 bux for the work but IPD had the pump for 450 plus a quart of unicorn atf for 40 and I got to save the balance by doing the work myself. Now I get to use all that money I saved on new brakes and probably a bunch of rubber suspension parts.

My local volvo shop just quoted me 2600 bucks for a bank one catalytic converter for my XC90. thats a ton of loot obviously, and I know they're not ripping me off since IPD wants 2100 for the cat itself. Anyone do one of these? and is there a non sketchy place to maybe get a used one?

Fingers crossed but I tried 2 cans of seafoam and it seems to have fixed whatever was causing the ecu to throw that catalyst code. Here's hoping it stays fixed!

My XC90 is doing that intermittently where you can't turn the key at all. Will it get worse? Is there a guide to fixing it?

There's a pretty clean 2006 V70 2.5t near me with a little over 100k miles for sale and it's pretty tempting. Anything to look out for besides normal P2 stuff? They want 8900 which kbb says is way over priced but I thought I'd do a sanity check with the hive mind first.

Edit: it's been in Nevada it's whole life so rust shouldn't be an issue and it's obviously been garaged because paint isn't faded and the interior isn't all cracked

My XC-90 has needed two new cats for a couple years now. When they first went bad I lived in a state that didn't do emissions testing. Then I moved to Texas, and I thought they did smog checks but it passed somehow, so maybe they don't. Now I live in Nevada, they do smog checks and it won't pass due to the aforementioned bad catalysts. Indie Volvo shop quoted me 3k for new ones but Volvo has them backordered indefinitely. Volvo dealer quoted me 9k (!) for the same thing and they also can't get them because they're backordered. Nevada won't let me register the thing until it passes but will issue me a 10 day movement permit to get it fixed. I can get a new 10 day permit for as long as the parts are on backorder but I have to drive to the DMV office (20-30 mins) every time to get it. What's my play here? suck it up and drive an hour bi-weekly to get the permits and ultimately fix my 190,000 mile SUV or wash my hands of the old girl and buy something new and under warranty? I can't really do the work myself as I don't have the tools or expertise or the time to do it. Also, its going to need new brakes on all 4 corners by the end of the summer and also 2 new sets of tires (summer and winter) since I live in a place where it snows pretty good. I hate to get rid of it because the rest of the car is in really nice shape but drat the open ended nature of this is really bothering me.

Im officially out of the Volvo club on Sunday. My SO wanted nothing more to do with our XC-90 so we're buying a Subaru. I hate to see it go, but here we are. I loved the straight 6 engine and the very quiet ride. I picked my baby daughter up from the hospital in it, so it's bittersweet to see it go. SO wants to maybe give it to one of our niece's in wisconsin, which basically means I have to see it fall farther and farther into decrepitude every time I go there, since every one of my in-laws treats their vehicles as trash bins that get them to work. Sorry for the EN post, I just get too drat attached to cars and Im melancholy as gently caress right now.
