If I was looking around for a reasonably quick, fairly reliable 90's Turbo Volvo which one would you guys recommend?

I've caught wind of a 1989 Volvo 240DL for $800. Stick shift, reasonably rust free. What kind of easy performance could I get out of one of these? They look great but the 114hp would be a pain on my commute.

I a 1997 850 Sedan with 144k on it for $1500 a good deal? Reliable? Any really horrible things happen to these models?

sbaldrick posted:On my way out of my driveway my car dumped a whole bunch of what looked and tasted like water onto the ground. It looked liked it came from a hose that runs from the radiator (I think) to the BRE unit? When I finally got home from work like half an hour ago I rolled it over and it wasn't leaking that I could see, plus there was one puddle on the car afterwards. Humid day with the AC on?

ch1mp posted:Which 15" 240 tires do people here like in tundra like environments? I'm a big fan of Goodyear Nordic's. I believe they are called UltraGrip 500 outside of Canada. They are amazingly noisy but the grip (on loose snow especially) cant be denied.

My experience is that any dedicated winter tire is going to be better than an all-season. You get progressively better handling, wear and less road noise if you spend more money. Hell I had some super cheap-o generic Walmart winter tires that managed to pull my Escort wagon through two feet of snow but sounded like I was running 33" mud tires on tarmac.
