That's because it was released on MASK500. Although that is some weird remix of it. The real one is 4:44 long (according to Discogs).

Seconding Ametsub being awesome. I've been spending the last couple months getting "Idm-ish" recommendations on Last.fm and apparently Japan has a pretty big scene of IDM-type music and lots of it is pretty good. A lot of it is glitchy, but with lots of acoustic instruments and stuff. One thing I've noticed is there are lots of female artists making this stuff, which you don't usually see.

Here's a short list of some of my favorites from the Land of Golden Animes...

Aus
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ra4yc5z0y70

Aoki Takamasa and Tujiko Noriko (They are both solo artists, but they teamed up for this album)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Rv-gmkYY6M

Ryuichi Sakamoto, probably one of Japan's biggest composers, also likes to make weird experimental music (he also teamed up with Alva Noto for a bunch of albums which are really good)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yw18bcpnxiQ

Moskitoo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2bOplJQ_Zg

Don't really feel like searching youtube anymore, but some more artists worth checking out are World's End Girlfriend, Kashiwa Daisuke, Piana, Motoro Faam, Flica, and Fjordne.
Great taste! I had the fortune to see aoki takamasa live, nice performance.

Also, if you like ryuichi sakamoto+alva noto you should check out sakamoto+fennesz too. I like that even more than the alva noto collaboration but I am a fennesz fanboy.

Also, if it hasn't been said before, fennesz' album "endless summer" is a milestone for experimental electronic music

There's a lot of hype over on twoism right now, apparently Boards are working on MULTIPLE projects. This will never happen but they need to go on tour and make a stop in Portland. I'd be so god drat happy.

Not sure what I want more.. a new album or that rumoured box set of all their unreleased stuff. Although I guess the latter is bound to happen sooner or later to stop whatever turns up going on ebay (didn't that A Few Old Tunes cassette go for like $800?)

Doubt it's the new Aphex though, we only heard a new album by him was being worked on in March / April, while we've been told a new BOC is on the way for years.

I still think it's either BoC or Aphex 'cause no one really gives a poo poo about anyone else. They are probably just loving with us. As far as Warp is concerned, I'm pretty hyped about the new FlyLo, Rustie, and Seefeel, but I don't think any of those guys would be called "very special."

That Squarepusher single is pretty terrible and I usually like a lot of his stuff. Is he with Ed Banger or something now? That's hilarious.

well, I personally feel that Seefeel is "ver special" and is quite excited to see movement come from that camp. Mark Van Hoen is pretty drat brilliant, but I can comfortably say that a BoC release does trump Seefeel atm.

I don't think Van Hoen has anything to do with the new Seefeel stuff. He wasn't even an actual member of the group when they were releasing albums in the 90s.

That's pretty tight. I saw Otto Van Shirach/Venetian Snares in Chicago and it was a good show except for this one guy who opened for them who wore all leather and played heavy metal riffs on an electric guitar in front of distorted beats.

I've been experimenting a little here and there with making IDM myself, as it is mostly what I find myself listening to, and therefore would likewise try to make music of the style.
I'm actually studying to be a composer, but I have quite the soft spot for electronic music.
Anyone wanna give me beats a listen? I just need some feedback because I don't know how good/bad I am. :psylon:

My newest EP was just released via 030303 Records, it's for sale at Clone now. It's not really super "IDM" (I hate that term bla bla), but it surely contains elements of the genre. If this is too much of a spam/plug-y post, tell me and I'll remove it.

I mean it's very generic, and "idm" ran its full gamut in 2001. Unfortunately this track contains all the hallmarks of amateur bedroom electronic music - soft, melodic pads and textures juxtaposed with skittering, warped and clinical percussion; to the extent that you can almost hear you've stapled it ontop. One of the things I suggest you do is listen to a bit of FlyLo or Autechre or something and see how you can make your tracks a living, breathing entity with a life of its own. Listen to "Cfern", listen to how the track shambles and shuffles along, a total subverted take on hip-hop. Work on picking out and developing unique, fresh sounds- the bitcrushing effect at the start of your track, for instance, is so played out it's not even funny.

The execution and production is all fine though. If you're studying composition then I would suggest you take a look at composers of yore who worked with tape and electronics, they are a great source of inspiration because they do not provide you with rigid, clear structures that you can simply emulate, as you do here. Good lord I best go to sleep
