UPDATE

Not too long ago I inquired about he legalities of machining an AR lower.

After speaking with members of the CNC Gunsmithing forum and a consultation with an attorney, it appears that as long as I am the person that presses the 'Go' button and the lower is for me; I am 100% legal.

I will be taking it a step further by keeping my cousins role 'supervisory.'

If it counts for anything I've had UMC JHPs expand in wetpack while the critical defense bullets just deformed. That's not a recommendation for UMC, it's just dirty practice ammo. I've yet to try any JHPs other than those two.

Ive done the same with 9mm Gold Dots and saw decent expansion + penetration. They are currently in my carry piece now.

Buy Gold Dots.

I was leafing through our little binder and found one for something called Bi-Pass. Its some kind of organic cleaning stuff, but I have never seen it in my office.

I have a Houge HandAll wraparound grip on my pistol and its been awesome to me for a couple of years.

Earlier this week I noticed that the bottom of the back of it and the very top of the front have gotten loose and kind of flappy.

Is there any way to get it to shrink back to its original size? I thought about using a heat gun or something on it but I dont want to totally ruin it.

Pretty much B. At least it has been on every pistol Ive owned.

Ive been watching the Tactical Carbine DVDs this weekend and had a question for you fellows, since I cant ask the god himself:

I see Costa and Trav running drills where they take a few shots and put their AR on safe. Im just curious about how they are getting it on safe?

It sounds incredibly stupid, but let me explain. Whenever Ive handled an AR rifle, I always have to adjust my grip to put the weapon back on safe. They just seem to flip it with the greatest of ease. Even with an extended safety switch, I imagine I would have to readjust my man-claws to flip it back on safe. Is there some kind of technique to it that I havent heard of?

Gray Stormy

I have big hands, maybe thats the issue. Ill play with the safety a bit once I get home. Its not a HUGE issue, I was just curious if it was a case special to me.

Speaking of which, we had a prison break here last week - three guys in the high security facility attacked a delivery truck driver with a shiv (tried to slit the guy's throat but thankfully were in too big a hurry), took his truck, and got most of the way through the fence. The three jumped out of the truck just as the perimeter vehicle drove up. The guard racked his shotgun and yelled "stop!" Two of the guys hit the ground and proned out. The third guy kept running and the guard took him clean out. I think they said it was about a 50-yard shot on a moving target with a short-barreled 870. All three were in for murder; the guy who kept running was in for life for murdering four members of his family plus his brother's girlfriend, all at Thanksgiving dinner.

drat. Do you guys have more than one prison in the area? If not, it looks like the first year Yoop-Shoot group had the right idea on casino night. 24-hour public gun ranges around the perimeter with signs that basically say 'if you see a prisoner, light em up.'

Ive noticed on my Steyr that depending on how many rounds are in the mag, it will rattle. Fully loaded usually doesnt rattle at all.

Maybe try taking the mag apart and cleaning the inside? I would imagine more serious issues if the follower was getting bound up, but it couldnt hurt, right?

I've shied away from getting a hand gun for home defense. I may grab one for Conceal Carry in the future but for now I think a shotgun is a bit of a better idea when comparing effectiveness vs. collateral damage to people.

While a shotgun may be easier to use under stress, a number of us here have tested and discovered that shotguns have the potential to penetrate WAY more than most handgun rounds.

Having said that, I don't know anything about guns. I don't want to kill anyone unless it's absolutely necessary and I'd like to give any intruder a chance to rethink his mistake.

Does anyone have any experience with Less Lethal ammunition? I thought it may be possible to load a less lethal and then normal shot after so I can at least try to take them down without taking them out.

Forget about LtL ammo. If you fire a shot in self-defense, you are pretty much hanging yourself if you dont kill the intruder(in most situations). I could be a little off-base on this assumption however.

Also, I am having trouble finding cheap shotguns but I hear they can be got pretty easily for under $200. There's a gunshow in my area in a couple weeks so I thought I'd go to that but I was unsure what ticket prices would look like and the website doesn't say. Any ideas on what is average?

Look around for a used Remington 870. They are awesome.

That could just be the nature of the medium though.
