I just got a G19 and while practicing reloads I noticed that my short fat thumb has a hell of a time hitting the mag release...is the mag release extension worth the money? and is it allowed in competitions?

On that note are there any must have modifications for the g19 you can recommend?

What's a good pistol case? I have 4 pistols now and will probably be 5 by the end of the year so I'd like it to handle at least that many. I was looking at pelican but I have no idea how that works. I'd like to be able to take it on a flight if needed.

First, I'm looking for a (relatively) cheap bare bones 1911 for carry purposes. Basically a standard 1911 with the usual basic refinements for carry (low profile Novak-esque sights, beavertail, commander hammer, beveled/flared ejection port, etc.) I don't need a super tactical slide serrations, frontstrap/backstrap checkering, extended ambidextrous controls, light rail behemoth (I've already got my Kimber, thank you very much :smug:). I'm probably looking for something in the $400-600 range. Is RIA's stuff any good? I would like to carry it, so reliability is kind of important...I'm not requiring GLOCK PERFECTION, but something that chokes every 50 rounds isn't exactly going to work either.

Sell the Kimber, by 2 RIA 1911's :smug:

But really, RIAs are awesome bare bones 1911s - I've been carrying the compact for about a year now and have no complaints.

EDIT: Should I be using something in addition to hoppe's 9 to clean and protect my firearms?

No problem. also if you are lazy or own lots of glocks ,CLP will do both and is pretty cheap.

its not looked upon favorably because it gets things kind of gunky and its not a particularly great solvent but i think its fine for surface applications especially, and some trigger groups that have more space between moving parts (my CZ-75 clone comes to mind)

I've got a glock, sig, ria 1911 (duh), ar-15, mosin, savage mk II, and Ruger Mk III

will CLP work fine on those? I'm also looking to get a stainless steel 1911 in the next month or so, just want to make sure CLP won't gently caress up the finish on any of the guns.

I've shied away from getting a hand gun for home defense. I may grab one for Conceal Carry in the future but for now I think a shotgun is a bit of a better idea when comparing effectiveness vs. collateral damage to people.

Having said that, I don't know anything about guns. I don't want to kill anyone unless it's absolutely necessary and I'd like to give any intruder a chance to rethink his mistake.

Does anyone have any experience with Less Lethal ammunition? I thought it may be possible to load a less lethal and then normal shot after so I can at least try to take them down without taking them out.

Also, I am having trouble finding cheap shotguns but I hear they can be got pretty easily for under $200. There's a gunshow in my area in a couple weeks so I thought I'd go to that but I was unsure what ticket prices would look like and the website doesn't say. Any ideas on what is average?

:aaaaa:

Seriously bro, delete your post - you don't buy less than lethal ammo for a home defense gun - you buy LETHAL ammo for any firearm you are going to use because you DON'T shoot to wound, you shoot to stop the threat which (usually) means death. When a gun is involved there is no "less than lethal" for civilians, please get this delirious idea out of your head, go buy some 00 or 000 buck and for the love of god and all that is holy DO NOT RACK YOUR SLIDE TO SCARE THEM AWAY

She's 5 and she's not that great at catch...probably because of the eye. The Doctors thought she had sight in that eye until she was about 2 then she can't see anything. When I cover her good eye she says all she sees is "black" but her bad eye reacts to light and other stimulus, just not sight.

She's left hand dominant but she's blind in her left eye, so I don't know how shooting is going to go unless she just shoots with her right hand. She's still too young to take shooting just yet anyways, but I'll probably have to figure it out in a few years.

My dad and I went to the Military Gun and Collector's show over the weekend (mostly because we happened to be at the fair grounds and didn't want to flea market shop with our wives)

Anyway, it kicked up the desire to have an m1 Garand and m1 c in me again. I know CMP is out of m1cs - where would be the next best place to pick one up and how much should I expect to pay? I'm going to assume the price is going to go up unless somebody somewhere allows all of those guns from Korea to be sold.

I also have to worry about hitting my car. I'd move it, but it also acts as the cat's shelter in case of rain/predators.

I'd be shooting into pavement, concrete or open dirt, depending on where the target's sitting. Bouncing/errant projectiles is my biggest concern.

If it's illegal to discharge a firearm in your area, I wouldn't risk it. Find out what the legal definition of a firearm is in your area. For example, in my county it's anything that shoots a projectile over 600 fps

Check out http://www.amlegal.com/ - they may have your local municipalities regulations.

EDIT - i forgot to finish my thoughts - then buy something that fires a projectile less than the definition. Alternatively, I've found that crossbows, slingshots, and bows are not prohibited by most local municipalities.

I'm putting together a christmas list and I need some advice - I'd like a 2 rifle carry case, good range bag (preferably able to carry pistols inside, if not a multi-pistol case), and a pair of binoculars.

The reason I want binoculars is so I can use them to see my shots at anywhere from 25 - 100 yards. Will a good pair of binoculars reasonably do that for me?

EDIT - ALSO - some kid had this awesome tube thing strung across his back at the range that he kept all of his targets rolled up in, anyone have an idea on where to get those or what they are? Are they just like big map tubes?

I think I like that idea better, I just wanted something I could throw in my range bag so I'm not lugging a ton of poo poo with me every time I go to the range. Last time I went I had:
Mosin in a case
m1 carbine in a case
"range bag" (tool bag I picked up for 20 bucks from wal mart that has served me well but I'm looking for more room)
then I also had to carry the spotting scope, targets, etc...

That's a lot of poo poo for 1 man to carry. It'd be nice to be able to throw it all in a bag + case and be done with it.

EDIT:
I'm looking for something like this just to bring to the range for a 2 rifle "case" - guess I should have said bag:

I'm fine with 1 range bag and 1 gun bag, I don't really mind any 2 of my rifles I currently own chilling in the same bag with a pad between them when everything else is in another bag. I will mostly be going to the Wake County public range (I know you hate it, but it's the only rifle range around here that doesn't need a membership).

I won't be bringing more than 1 or 2 guns max each time I go, since you're pretty much restricted to 1 hr at a time, then factor in the hot and cold times they do pretty constantly, you really only get around 45 minutes of shooting time max.

Which cheap spotting scope do you guys recommend?

Also, if any of you are interested I found a decent looking blueprint tube for 16 bucks with a shoulder strap here

I would, but it's about twice as far from where I live as the wake county range, as of right now I can go to the wake county range after work on a tues or thursday and be home in time to tuck my daughter in...If I went to DPRC I wouldn't be able to do that.

We are usually out of town on the weekends (loving ex-wife and her annoying self), so I couldn't go on many Saturdays. However, my wife and I have been looking at buying a house in the next year or two, and we're looking in the area around DPRC so I'll probably join then.

this might sound like a strange request, but I know there are a bunch of nerds on here who play RPGS. I want to run a Weird Wars II game using maptool and instead of turning generic pictures of soldiers into tokens I'd like to just tokens of whatever primary weapon the soldier has. Example - German rifleman would be a k98 over a iron cross or something. My question/request is does anyone have a picture or pictures of common small arms used during WWII by various factions in about 64 x 64 pixels in size? I'm not so great with photoshop or anything like that so I don't know if I could take a googled picture of an mp40 (for example) and make everything but the gun transparent. I can handle putting it over a picture of an Iron Cross or an American flag if needed, but if you want to be extra help that would be awesome.
