I'm pretty sure some guy did what you guys are talking about. It was an %80 lower that was essentially bolted together so it required very basic machining processes to finish up. He ran into trouble with a service he offered to "help" a person finish one of his lowers. He was doing too much of the work or something like that so it wasn't a legit %80 lower anymore.

At least that's what I remember reading about, I could be wrong on some of the details.

Could give https://www.railriders.com stuff a shot. I've been wearing a pair of their rock jeans as work pants (non air-conditioned factory, Southern Michigan) and they've held up great and been plenty comfortable. They're currently having a sale so their stuff is at a nice price point as well.
