still have a big box of all of mine. pretty sure I've still got some of the misprint Turaga masks too. They're actually extremely useful in MOCs.

also had this until relatively recently, over the course of like a decade I sold'em all for a couple bucks a pop

if I had had more money I would have bought more, it was literally "fill a Legoland California bag with any pieces you want for 25 bucks" and one of the giant bins was entirely Trans-Neon Green Mirus, a promo bionicle mask exclusive to Legoland California. I got $100 worth of bags of them and I am pretty sure made like $4000 over the course of selling them all off.

I really think that LEGO hosed up by not making the Mario figure a separate purchase. My friend got the Starter Course for me because he knew I got the NES and I wanted that Mario for the interactivity feature. But now I have the Starter Course just sitting around in pieces (because it's not stable enough to hold together if you move it when you make your own course) and I really don't care about all this bullshit that doesn't make an iconic Mario locale.

Double points may have dried up.

From what I can see, going back a couple years or so we had them August, October, December, March, July, October, December, March, July, October, December, March and nothing since. Last two years they did July, the year before was August. So maybe we will get them soon.

E: went back a little further and in 2015 they seemed to happen a bit more often. But Oct/Dec/Mar seem consistent every year. It's just this year we seem to have skipped summer points. Probably covid related.

It really is a lovely hat

Anyone have advice for where to jump into mindstorms for a kid that knows how to program (golang preferred) can build technic/large Lego sets and wants to build a robot clothes folder? The alternative is learning to fab, and doing something with raspberry/arduino which we’ve poked at some with a breadboard, but the kiddo is still a bit young for soldering/welding/lathes. Given we already have a ton of Lego and are in it for the long haul, adding more to that stash seems ok assuming it won’t go obsolete immediately.

Mostly I’m looking for some clue what the Lego roadmap for programmable stuff for schools looks like for the next decade if some goon has a feel for it. Ev3 education vs spike prime is a mess to navigate.

So, I got my NES set today, and have to say that at least while it was in a super lovely package, the actual box only had minor damage, and I'm not a super collector so it was fine by me. I have only gotten through the first 5 bags, and am way out of date on modern LEGO stuff, but the little mechanism used for the cartridge tray is super neat! I love how that was implemented.

Super excited to finish the rest of this set. I'll also say to the goon who posted the ridiculous collection of the old space sets....you made 9 year old me insanely jealous.

Only halfway through building the NES, but one of my favorite things (beside the cartridge mechanism) is the AC port. It was one of those wonderful "this seems odd" moments when I was putting the rod into the 1x1 technic brick, and it wasn't till I put the other ports on that it clicked.

400 USD has been the rumour / assumption for a while. Hogwarts is 400 for 6000 pieces (but with a different scale and with fewer figures) and Ninjago City was 300 for 4900 pieces so it's plausible at least.

Sounds like it'll be missing some prominent parts of the Alley too.

"about 1 meter wide" = ~125 studs wide. 13 cm deep = 16 studs deep. Highest point of 29cm is about 30 stacked bricks tall.

So imagine 4 16x32 plates or baseplates in a row for the footprint and you're pretty much there. Or, to visualize it:

Just finishing building the Mega-Construx Banshee and Warthog, and hot drat those are both excellent builds! I’ve been making GBS threads on megablocks for so long now, and specifically avoiding the halo sets based on my experience from 20+ years ago, and that’s just not the case. The clutch is excellent, the design is excellent, I’m even a fan of the micro action figures that I thought were so derpy before.

Plus, the clutch actually matches Lego bricks now... they’ve fixed the crappy molding of yore that caused endless frustration for me. I feel like my whole world has been turned upside down... if only I’d discovered this sooner, so much regert :eng99:

Important: Does the Warthog have per-wheel suspension?

And is this the same Warthog model? (Seems its the Halo Infinite hog?)

I had one of these. I think it was a different model, though. I remember the cars being different. This ended up with the track itself and most of the pieces being given away- I'm still finding pieces here and there integrated into old builds that I have deconstructed. Good to hear the quality has improved since then.

In unrelated news, the Diner arrived exactly one week after I ordered it on Backorder. Fedex delivered, box was immaculate and they used those air filled bags instead of packing peanuts which makes it way less messy. I see now it's 60 days for fulfillment now so I feel very fortunate for getting it when I did. Still have to build Medieval Market Village and 6986 Galactic Enforcer/Mission Commander before I can get to it, though.

One thing I find with the modulars is they are pretty much perfect sets out of the box- they require no embellishment and in fact cannot be made better than they are. I might swap out the white streetlamps on Assembly Square and the Diner for the black Xtra ones, but we'll see how it looks first.

What really knocked me out
Was her cheap sunglasses
Another anecdotal data point: Got my Barracuda Bay in today from Lego shop at home. The outer box wasn't crunched or broken, but it definitely was packed in a way that wasn't very protective of the innards and had some battle damage. Luckily, the box inside was fine, which is all that counts, but I can definitely see how these big sets can get damage. The filled balloon bags inside were barely enough.

I have avoided megablocks though occasionally I’ve been tempted while walking by Halo Sets in store, but now I really regret that. The poor clutch and lego brick mismatch problems have been fixed—I plan on tossing the spare bricks in with the rest of my legos (after I get my collection sorted and old megablocks quarantined). I bought mine from Target, and am currently trying to hunt down older sets (though secondhand availability is bleak).

The suspension is great, it looks and feels like the vehicle in the game, and each wheel independently pops up and down. Really clever design—it passes the vroom test. Plus the figs are excellent, the proportions look much better in person.

This has me very excited for the Pelican Inbound

Diner and Assembly Square - Yes. Buncha the older modulars like Green Grocer are pretty bleak inside, they feel designed for you to MOC the interior :)

I got it last fall without minifigs or the cows for a decently reduced price. Unlike some of the other sets I bought around that time that ended up in the Best of the 2000s bracket, the price has stayed somewhat the same so that’s good if you were wanting to add it to your collection.
