Royalty is a continuous shitposting motion.
Someone needs to post Rovell's response to getting called out, if anything it's even worse than the original.

I like to think of Darren Rovell as an enlightened monk trained in the art of disassociating himself from any and all human emotions, and then came back to human society only to be fascinated by the twin subjects of sports and money.

Didn't someone from Deadspin refer to him as "post-human"? That was my favorite description of him.

Yes.

quote:

Remember when ESPN business reporter and post-human Darren Rovell narced out a guy on Twitter for cracking a joke at his expense? At the time, a lot of people figured Rovell was just blustering. Surely, they thought, he’s not so big a baby that he’d tattle on someone just for busting on him on the internet. Thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, we now know that, yes, Darren Rovell really is that big of a baby.

Not sure where to put this but I remember them getting an ESPY but also I believe an E60 piece among others. Dick Hoyt died this morning. No matter what anytime I see any videos of him running with his son I get choked up.

They had a few shitheads stop by to do one-off pieces, but as originals go you might be thinking of AJ Daulerio or noted sex pest Greg Howard.

E: they flirted with Bill Simmons and Rick Reilly for ages too but I don't think either one actually did a piece for them.

Reminds me, was there ever a follow up on those first numbers that got reported a few months ago indicating that customers of the Barstool-branded sportsbook were remarkably worse at betting than anyone imagined possible? It was only over the first like month or whatever the reporting period is per regulations but they clobbered the expectations for how much the house should profit from clients' bad bets in addition to the built-in juice.

No, I'm pretty sure "Fair Use" doesn't cover spending seven and a half hours reading an entire book to a live audience without the author's permission the day it comes out.

Wait what happened with Howard? I thought he was well liked and went on to NYT. I occasionally think about his absurd take that men shouldn’t wear shorts under any circumstances.

There were allegations of harassment and general creepiness around other staffers. Seemed to vanish as quick as it popped up though.

I know fair use is always something of a moving target, but isn't part of it whether the use in question could be an acceptable substitute for the work itself? What's the overlap of people who want to read/listen to the book in earnest, and people who want to listen to it in full with commentary from rear end Dan and the Scrotum Steve of Barstool Sports?

I think that might be a contested argument because the platform they shared on provides closed captioning and maybe even transcription for the whole video so people could read along with it.

Looks like it's already down on Minihane's Youtube channel.

An area school system wanted to do something similar (but not with evil intentions), with staff reading children's books in Youtube videos. Copyright issues meant they had to take them down within 24 hours. No, you can't read a full book on Youtube.

Copyright infringement includes fan art and unauthorized sequels so I think this counts.
