A strange sense of otherworldliness came over me yesterday evening when I was piping DaWolfey's Klaus Wunderlich block through to the stereo system downstairs. Goon radio for a family gathering seemed so wrong. My wife and daughter were exchanging "he's getting old/he's high again" glances while I remained apprehensive in case DW decided to insert a short wake-up blast of Anal oval office. However, the stream broke, and we sat Klausless.

Then we could ban that poo poo for 353 days a year until it was seasonally appropriate.

Could probably figure out 12 months of metal

January for the cold frost bitten northern metal
February for black metal
March for irish metal
April for joke and gimmick metal
etc

Well I could probably live through January's grim and frostbitten. That stuff doesn't irk me so bad.

March sounds terrifying, unless it has thrash bagpipes.

The Nintendo music was my add. Are you sure you weren't looking at my add and thinking it was your song? There's always the possibility your addition was a corrupt file and the system auto-skipped it.

edit: or... did you hear an 8-bit "bees" song? That would mean you weren't connected to the stream properly. I bet that's what happened.

The stream crashed when your song came up. You were hearing the 8-bit "Bees" music that plays when that happens. Are these songs all things you uploaded? There might be something wrong with the files you uploaded or the station's handling of them.

Edit: possibly a problem with non-mp3 uploads in general, not just you

So what exactly is the history of bees? I've always been curious.

newsomnuke
Feb 25, 2007

A goon by the name of Verix created a song called "Bees", with the line Oh poo poo it's bees dot mp3, and I'm like, at-sign spam bees. This caused a lot of people in IRC to try typing @spam bees, to see what it did. Which was nothing, so kalleboo added something to the IRC bot (desu, IIRC) which made it print an ASCII image of bees every second time someone typed that.

Shortly afterwards bee-mania took firm grip, and several instrumental covers were created, including the chiptune version you hear today. Verix then created a breakcore version of the Bee Gees' Tragedy, cleverly disguising it under layers of noise, distortion and amen breaks.

My memory gets a little hazy after that.

Bjorn you glad I didn't say banana?
I thought we were using the original bees.mp3 before Verix made that song. It was my understanding that some goon made it and posted it in some random thread and Kaleboo grabbed it to replace the Holy Grail Intermission song as the error music.

Chipping in with a fix for last.fm, if you use foobar2000 with Florian's component instead of the official poo poo.

All you have to do is configure it like usual, only add these field remapping scripts:

For artist:
code:
[$ifgreater($strstr(%path%,gbs.fm),0,$left(%artist%,$sub($strchr(%artist%,'('),1)),%artist%)]
For album:
code:
[$ifgreater($strstr(%path%,gbs.fm),0,$if($strcmp($put(a,$substr(%artist%,$add($strchr(%artist%,'('),1),$sub($strrchr(%artist%,')'),1))),'(empty)'),,$get(a)),%album%)]
And for title:
code:
[$ifgreater($strstr(%path%,gbs.fm),0,$left(%title%,$sub($strrchr(%title%,'['),1)),%title%)]
Perhaps the match rule for GBS FM could be made more specific, in case you care that it may trigger on any path that happens to contain "gbs.fm", but this should be good enough for most cases.

Of course, if you don't want GBS.FM completely wrecking your last.fm charts, that's perfectly understandable.

EDIT: Slight change to accomodate "(empty)" album titles.
