This is what I miss when my internet goes out for 24 hours!

Welcome to this little festival of pain, wtf and love, we do hope you'll forgive us old people for adding the really odd things, we're just so very jaded by normal music after 6 odd years of this station, in it's various incarnations.

My personal favorite are the m456asmmgm4323525m562522.mp3 dong titles. Because that poo poo is helpful.

If you're unsure about whether or not your version of a dong is counted as a dupe, just ask anyone in the channel, the response is usually "as long as you don't upload 5 billion live versions of the same dong" you should be fine.

I hope the new incarnation has trimmed most of the poo poo songs that I guess people think are hilarious to listen to ironically or whatever, I used to listen at work all the time and discovered some great music until it got to where every song on the list was either rated 1-2 or was some lovely cookie monster metal.

I don't much like cookie monster metal, but I'm not going to deny that people love that poo poo unironically. But, then again, I listen to Merzbow, so what do I know?

Well part of the problem with that is that some (less, sure) people like it. We're not going to start denying people their music just because its less universally loved. That would suck. It's part of the magic of gbs-fm that you get to hear _everything_.

You also get the added bonus of telling them how much you really hate their taste in music.

Something we forgot to mention in the OP, don't upload non-music, this includes spoken-word. It gets banned and skip'd if played. If you feel this is draconian or whatever, please realise we've had this discussion to death in the previous years and it was locked in place back then.

I just banned and skipped it, so no. If you find a dong that is non-music, report it as such and a mod will look into it. This goes for any kind of mixup, be they duplicates, mistags or just plain untagged dongs, always report them.

It's possible those edits were grandfathered in from before the rule existed on the old station, Peach and just slid by over time. Personally, I voted to nuke them since half the time they're badly truncated or some chucklefuck wants to edit a song down to just under the limit only to play it, regardless of quality.

The idea of banning/probationing dongs under a certain vote threshold has been on the board before, way back when the first station was around and it was pretty unanimously considered to be a bad idea, given how vindictive people are on the internet. The playlist would end up collapsing under it's own weight as people retaliate-voted 1 on everything that wasn't theirs, or to get their song to play quicker.

Entropy would set in.

*edit: can't spell theirs,

- songs rated lower have a longer cool down period

Given peoples inclination to be shitheads on the internet, you can imagine how many songs would get downvoted just to be a oval office to other listeners (this already happens, but with little other effect than the very rare rageout in the comments or irc).

We've been discussing things like this pretty much since the station first launched in 2004 and it's just not a good idea to let votes decide anything other than what peoples initial expectations will be before it plays.

Give automatic tokens for every twentieth dong added to the playlist. Or maybe uploaded, something like that.

I feel that an automated token system might be a bit easy to abuse, especially for something like uploads. It didn't take me long to come up with the idea to just spam uploads of short, silent mp3 files to accrue tokens.

Tokens should be awarded for someone going out of their way to improve the station, like making a ton of reports and edits for dongs that are corrupt/breaking the rules or just badly tagged, or for when a mod is drunk and wants to just tell you how much you're their best friend in the world, man.

In the end, there'll always be someone on the other side to make a judgement call on whether or not someone earned a token or if they've just been churning out a ton of edits that simply amount to adding the track-number in order to gain tokens.

Hell, we gave you a ton of chances. We only hellbanned you at the start, because you had interesting adds in between your hilarious attempts at trolling the playlist, the problem was that your trolling was taking over the fun, so we asked you to scale it back. You didn't, and got hellbanned for a week.

When you came back, you went right back at it, I guess in some kind of deluded "I am fighting the power!" moment, like you're having right now.

So we hellbanned you again.

Clearly you have a learning disability, because you jumped back in when you got back and I permabanned you.

That's when you made the Christina Carmi account, which was found out very quickly, because you are a stupid motherfucker.

So, yeah. You're kinda dumb, bro.

Edit: I feel I should point this out, Beelzebozo didn't ban you, never did. I did most of those hellbans and I like you, puffery. You were just incredibly unfunny towards the end and needed reeling in. Unfortunately you decided to go swim at the deep end and got permabanned instead.

We all agreed on the permaban, though.

To be fair, you also reported two other dongs as dupes, despite one being 5 minutes longer than the other one. Dupes should only be reported if they're exact matches in time signature, and even then make sure it's not something like a Live album.
