It’s a good series if you’re interested in classical guitar. It’s a different approach than is typical for Hal Leonard, but not in a bad way. As mentioned, depending on your skill level, you may be best off skipping ahead to Volume 2.

Oh yeah for sure. If you own a book you should definitely play out of it! I used the regular Hal Leonard Classical method, but I'm sure from the sound of it they're equally good (and certainly neither is $10 better).

Go learn classical, it rocks.

Nice! I may check it out, or at least put it on my wishlist for later. Only seeing the spine bound ones on Amazon and I love the spiral that is in that screenshot. Is there a good source for the spiral bound? SO much better for music books.

you can take music books to a kinko's / fedex / print shop and they'll spiral bound it for you. this post actually reminded me that i did just with a clarinet method book a long time ago, for sight reading practice.

this is a fun one. way harder than it looks - descending thirds break my brain. especially in melodic minor

Yes, I had both volumes spiral bound together at a FedEx. Think it cost less than ten bucks.

Wish I could find a place where I am that would do this. Tried two places and they won’t touch existing books. :argh:

I have a couple softcover rulebooks for tabletop games I want spiral bound, is it like $5 per book or does it depend on page count?

At FedEx office, it's per book as far as I can tell, that or it varies so little it doesn't matter. Source: I had my Kill Team rule books bound and ti was $4 something per, then I had my Modern Method vols 1-3 bigass book spiral bound and ti was $4 something.

i also use these clear clips on my music stand, for when something isn't spiral bound: https://www.stringsbymail.com/wood-and-clear-plastic-sheet-music-holder-clip-10-in-12099.html

Much less sanding involved in building and painting minis. Then again, if you add up all the sanding over all those minis... OH LORD WHAT HAVE I DONE

It's been a while since I painted minis. Are GW still that expensive? Because yeesh, that money's never coming back.
At least with used guitar-gear you can roll it into different used gear 1:1 if you're a bit clever.

I strongly recommend the Parkening books. They're structured in a way that progresses easily and naturally and are full of exercises that actually sound good and are fun to play.

Sounds neat there's a lot of specialized hardware involved in them.
I have a lap steel but it's way harder ro sound good on it than regular guitar I can't even begin to get my head around all the levers and doo-dads on a pedal steel.

Honestly working the pedals and levers alone isn't so bad, you get used to that pretty quick. But the huge amount of extremely subtle things that go into producing a consistently good tone and effect have no limit to the skill ceiling.

Greetings from the bass thread!

I feel like this is probably the better thread to seek advice... I need to solder in some new pots in a hollowbody bass, and I know that can be a complete pain in the rear end with the absence of a control cavity. Does anyone here have any tried-and-true methods or video tutorials to make it as painless as possible?

At the moment, my plan is to tie some fishing line and labels onto the pots before detaching them, and using either a coat hanger or some extendable magnets I have to fish them out through the F-holes.

Solder an old string to the top of each pot, label the other end of the string, then pull the whole loom out through the pickup routs/F holes depending on the access routes. Work on one component at a time and don't start on the next until you've replaced it.

This was pretty much what I did on a hollowbody and it was tolerable. It just takes a lot of patience. A pair of stainless cooking-tweezers is worth the money if you want to save a bit of frustration.

I went through the hollow body hassle rewiring my 335 when I got it it had no electronics so I was starting from scratch.
I ended up using a small nut tied to a string and a strong magnet with masking tape on the bottom to protect the finish.
I scooted the nut along the inside of the top with the magnet until it pulled out of of the hole.
Then secured each string with making tape so they couldn't pull back out.

Third time is a charm right?
If you look up on youtube how to do hollow/semi hollow rewiring, stewmac has a tool (because of course they do), but its basically a very small coat hanger that you can grab and control things. Ive also seen a guy who used a very small hose/tube that they fed through the corresponding holes, and then through the pickup cavity which could grip onto the knurled ends of the volume/tone knobs where you just pull it through and it puts it right into place. Now, finding the specific size hose with the correct inner dimension and outer dimensions that can hold onto your pot and fit through the hole is going to be tricky especially since certain pots have larger poles than others.

I'll have to try and find the link if possible. I would definitely use some painters tape and tape off the edges of the fhole/pickup cavities and protect the finish.

Anybody else use the guitar fetish quick plug pickups? The bridge pickup in my tele the connector is too loose and comes undone from the tension when I get the bridge all screwed back into place and was wondering if there's a way to tighten it up that's simple enough for me to do (for anyone unfamiliar it's like a tiny 2.5mm Jack from the control pots that plugs into a jack on the bottom of the pickup).

I could just try super gluing it into place??

If you have tweezers that can reach the pins in the male socket, and you trust yourself to be very gentle, you could try ever so slightly bending a pin toward or away from the other(s) and see if that is enough friction to hold it on. Be especially careful to not force the plug back on, though. You only want enough resistance to hold it down.

I would avoid glue but maybe a small mechanical fix like a bit of twist-tie if you can figure out a way to wrap it.
