I think you want to leave the vents open but the doors closed. If you close the vents, the shared walls with those rooms are going to be affected as there isn't any insulation.

What's the practical difference between a $400 TV and a $1000 tv? If it's the same size and the same manufacturer and the amazon reviews are good, what makes the cheaper one so much cheaper? If I'm getting 50", what's at stake?

Sometimes nothing, but it could be quality or type of screen, components, features, etc.

A cheap LCD is going to look pretty much the same as all other LCD TV's, but get an OLED in there and you will see an enormous difference.

Never give money to HR block.

Do your own taxes. I believe taxact is free, still.

Are flight attendants rated for specific plane models in the way pilots are?

I bet they have to know where all the exits and stuff are, so I'm going to guess "yes" before an expert chimes in.

I have a set of pretty standard wireless can style headphones and some of the vinyl(?) coating on the earpieces is starting to rub off. The manufacturer doesn't sell replacement pads, so I'm looking for covers. I remember seeing ads frequently for covers from some brand that just looked like circles of nylon fabric that stretched over the earpieces, one size fits most kind of operation. Of course now that I need them, I can't find them, and my google fu is weak. What term should I be looking for?

This poo poo bothers me so much. I have been using ear buds a lot more now, in no small part to being unable to have nice cushions on my cups.

Why do people ask ChatGPT things instead of just googling them? It doesn’t seem any more convenient from what I’ve seen. Genuinely curious, would welcome answers from people who find it useful though I can understand why they wouldn’t want to speak up here.

I used Google's Gemini recently, my buddy said one of the voices sounds like me. I asked the time, which it said in a funny way, so I asked for it in military time. It was off by 5 hours.

AI is garbage that is actually worse than what we had before.

Oh that's odd! My eyes don't see blue lights the same after I had LASIK, there's like a drop shadow effect, it's weird. I can drive and see fine, but there's always a wonky weird thing going on with dark blue lights.

Today I was talking about martial art instructors and I said to the person, “In my culture, we give extra respect and deference to masters.” “My culture,” in this context, specifically refers to my immediate family and how my sister and I were raised by my parents. Is there a word for this kind of “culture?” I was thinking “micro-culture” but family didn’t quite fit the definition I found.

"I was raised to _____"

I threw all the poo poo marked to the people who had sold the house to the people I bought it from. It had been a decade at that point.

I took special pleasure in throwing out the family reunion stuff. I liked to imagine that they didn't want their family to know where they moved .

There's also the whole thing about instrument tuning, which ISO 16 specifies as A=440, but most symphony orchestras use A=442 anyway.

I have not heard of this. Please, explain away.
