DildenAnders posted:I've had dandruff all my life. The last two times I've gotten haircuts, they've washed my hair, and I didn't get dandruff again until the next time I washed it myself. What am I doing wrong? If you're like me, it isn't technically dandruff so much as it is dry scalp. I used to get really fine white flakes on my shoulders even using a regular dandruff shampoo, but switching to shampoo/conditioner specifically for dry scalp made that pretty much go away. My guess is that when they wash your hair before the haircuts they are using something more moisturizing than your regular haircare stuff.

Note also that the over-ear headphones are more effective than the earbud style. I had never thought of doing that. I have a pair of Sony WH-1000XM4 over-the-ear headphones and pair of Anker Soundcore Liberty 4 Pro earbuds that I might have to try this with.

I will adjust my tip according to service, but usually do at least 20%. The calculus is a little different here in Oregon because servers have to make at least minimum wage and tips are on top of that - none of that fractional wage bullshit other states allow that makes them completely dependent on tips.

Drimble Wedge posted:Cats are incredibly prone to kidney and bladder issues, especially as they get older. What would happen if you gave your kitty the urinary diet wet or dry food without an actual diagnosis; would that prevent issues down the road? (I'm not going to do this, just wondering what would happen, and why isn't ALL food made with urinary health in mind?) I doubt it. I think what is going to differentiate between the diets is how well the cat's organs are functioning, so the urinary health ones are going to be targeted to ingredients helpful when their Achilles kidneys are less functional, stuff like that. Giving that same food to a healthy cat isn't going to have a protective effect because its organs are functioning well and are going to process it normally.

I think that might contain the answer why compatibility is more of an issue now - TV remotes aren't using IR blasters anymore and are using RF or Bluetooth, which require pairing in some manner. Back when everything was IR it was fairly trivial to "train" a universal remote, and the patterns each manufacturer used were well-enough known that most remotes could be set to almost any device just by entering an ID code.

I have hypochondriac tendencies, too, but the flowchart of marks on hand -> bat bite -> rabies is really extreme. If the anxiety was severe enough to justify a trip to urgent care then I assume you have some level of health coverage and I would feel remiss if I didn't suggest following up with a mental health provider. While you might feel better after the visit to urgent care, you're potentially setting yourself up for a situation where medical anxieties crop up and you end up going to the doctor/urgent care more and more compulsively to relieve the anxiety. I mean, maybe this is a one-off case and you won't deal with something like it again, but you're describing a level of hypochondria which I'd say deserves attention.

HopperUK posted:It's totally fine to get a booster though, given that even if the risk is tiny, the consequences are so serious. I might be a bit overly nervy about rabies though since we don't have it in the UK and it seems kinda horrifying to have around. It's not something that is usually vaccinated against unless someone is at high risk of exposure so it's not as simple as just getting a booster like with COVID. The usual approach is to do the vaccination regimen along with rabies immunoglobulin AFTER exposure. While rabies does exist here it is not common, and I'd be willing to bet that most cases of people getting treated for it are after an autopsy of the animal that was a potential exposure vector. I would be very surprised if the urgent care that poster went to initiated the whole treatment protocol based on the marks in the pic they posted. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabies_vaccine https://www.cdc.gov/rabies/hcp/prevention-recommendations/pre-exposure-prophylaxis.html Last year my mom's cat was in limbo for a week or so under the threat of euthanasia because she was found with a dead bat. The bat was sent off for testing and luckily came back clean for rabies, or my mom's cat would've had to be put down. At no part in the process was anyone getting vaccinated for rabies floated by anyone involved.

Rabies is indeed scary as hell, so I'm glad it worked out okay.

I just get a little touchy when people perpetuate the myth of random spider bites. For one thing, I've grown fond of spiders over the years. For another, the local hospital handwaved away my ex-wife's MRSA infection as being due to a spider bite when in hindsight it was almost 100% certain she initially contracted it from the self-same hospital.

I'm imagining a list like "change address at your job, set up USPS forwarding, check your kickstarters, check your statements for recurring charges that might be things that get delivered, change at your bank, ..." Be aware that if you file a change of address form with the USPS that it can have unintended consequences. Those cards go into the National Change of Address database and mass mailers are required to use that database, and other companies (like debt collectors) can pay for access to it. One reason I get very little spam mail is because I stopped filing those cards years ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Change_of_Address For a lot of people the convenience is worth the exposure, but I like to stay off as many mailing lists as possible.

Inceltown posted:Is there a browser addon or a little script that lets you download all the pics in a facebook album without having an account? Pics of my dog get posted to the daycare he goes to but I don't want to have to register a fb account to see them and they make it really annoying to not be logged in. Others might know some workaround, but knowing Meta I would be surprised if they didn't actively try to block it. What I'd do under the circumstances is open Facebook in a Private/Incognito window, create a burner account with a temporary/burner email address, get what I wanted and then nuke it. If it's going to be something ongoing then I'd keep the burner account and only ever open it in a Private/Incognito window. I actually have two Facebook accounts, one in my real name that I don't kill because it's the only way I have to contact some people and it's also sometimes necessary for work poo poo. The other is a pseudonym, which Facebook eventually complained about so I made it slightly less obviously a fake name. It's gotten to the point I only log in to one of them every 6 months or so, and both are fairly old, so I should say I'm not up to speed on how much of a pain creating a new account might be now. I don't trust Meta at all, and refuse to have any of their apps on my phone. I also manually delete their cookies from my PCs on the occasions I've accidentally opened one of their sites in a regular window. On that note, what I'm suggesting above is assuming doing it on a PC. Basic things I'd recommend for a fake Facebook account is to make the name sound reasonable and not too obviously made up, and to set the demographics to white American male mid 20s to mid 40s in age. From my observations over the years Facebook implicitly favors that demographic, and will let those accounts get away with poo poo that female accounts get suspended for. Also go into the settings and turn off pretty much everything and set it to private, otherwise Facebook will spam you with desperate clickbaity emails at least daily.
