I've got a question:

How would you go about putting pirated movies on an iPad. I've spent the last 25 minutes searching google for this and I can't figure this itunes poo poo out.

Handbrake

Just checked it out and this just seems like a dvd ripper and a file converter.

I already use ffmpeg for my file conversion. I was mostly wondering if there is some option in itunes to import some video without having to explicitly purchase it through a store.
I've got the videos on my computer and I need to figure out how to put them on someone else's ipad. For some reason ipads suck balls and you're forced to go through itunes.

Nope. It's absolutely retarded that you need to go through itunes to do anything.

I hate my friend for using this ipad and then making me get movies on it for him.

How would our world appreciably change if the speed of light was faster, say 1^10 rather than 2.99^8 m/s.

The most obvious thing I can think of is nuclear power would become significantly more potent as an energy source.

E=mc^2. Not only have we raised the value of C, we've raised it and squared the increase.

3^8 / 1^10= 33.3^2 = 1111.11.

We effectively get 1000 times more energy out of the same amount of fissile material.

Since we're talking about homes, I've got a question. What all does new construction in a rural area require? I've got a list of things to price to see if I can afford it, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

So far, I figure I'll need:
Electric hookups (County Co-op)
Water meter (Co-op again)
Propane tank
Septic tank
Dirtwork to level a spot for the house
Foundation Installation (plus whatever plumbing needs to go through the concrete)

After that comes the actual construction, but is there anything I'm missing that I would need before construction can begin? And would it seem feasible to get all that for under $10k?

A well and maybe a water softener.

Maybe a microwave connection for phone/internet.

Say HP buys Compaq for $10 billion.

Where does the money actually go when a company is bought out like that?

Nintendo Kid posted:

In the actual HP-Compaq merger, which cost $25 billion:

"Under the terms of the agreement, unanimously approved by both Boards of Directors, Compaq shareowners will receive 0.6325 of a newly issued HP share for each share of Compaq, giving the merger a current value of approximately $25 billion. HP shareowners will own approximately 64% and Compaq shareowners 36% of the merged company. The transaction, which is expected to be tax-free to shareowners of both companies for U.S. federal income tax purposes, will be accounted for as a purchase."

So if you had say 10,000 shares of Compaq before the merger back in 2001, you ended up on the other side with 6,325 shares of the new HP. If you had only 100, they wouldn't give you fractional stock, but you would usually receive the value of the fractional stock (0.25 of the new stock in that case) as a small payment to your bank account or maybe as a check.

Okay but does that money in anyway actually get reinvested directly into the new HP, as opposed to the old Compaq shareholders, or does it go off to stockholders and then it is up to them to decide whether to continue their partnership with the new merged HP.

I was thinking about the eye in particular.

But at one point or another you'd need multiple independent systems that cannot function without the the rest. The odds of mutating one of these sytems is pretty rare, but the odds of mutating one of these independently useless systems and being successful long enough to develop the rest seems pretty ridiculous.

quote:

Charles Darwin himself wrote in his Origin of Species, that the evolution of the eye by natural selection at first glance seemed "absurd in the highest possible degree"

It obviously happened at some point, but comparing a brain and eye to something like ligaments evolving feels like they're orders of magnitude apart.

Minimum Wage
Alberta’s general minimum wage increased on October 1, 2015 as indicated below:

an hourly minimum wage of $11.20 for most employees
an hourly minimum wage of $10.70 for employees serving liquor as part of their regular job

It's not a big difference but I just don't understand the mentality of making a distinction in the first place.

Serving liquor could also encompass things like working in a liquor store.

Unfortunately, they're also all hard plastic stickers, and they're on a brushed aluminium surface, so I can't scrape them off.

Use some isopropyl alcohol.

It's like 2 dollars for 500ml.
