ChairMaster posted:Hey so I looked up the price of a PS4 on Amazon a week ago and it was $449, but then the next day it was on sale for $399 and it said they were out of stock and they'd have some back soon. So then today I look it up and it's back in stock but they're back up to $449. Is it Amazon selling it at the $449 or is it a third-party seller? EDIT: It looks like it's the two different bundles, the $449 being the Destiny bundle and the $399 being the stand-alone console edition.

ChairMaster posted:I should have mentioned that this is Amazon.ca (everything costs more money in Canada even when our dollar is worth as much as yours), not amazon.com. I imagine they would've charged you the $399 in that case. I know the US site has the pre-order guarantee that the price you order it at will be the price you're charged so I don't see why it'd be any different in a situation like this.

Okay, so what would happen if someone who wasn't eligible for President of the United States won a presidential election with a write-in vote? Like if it was Ozzy Osbourne, who was born in the UK or Optimus Prime who is a fictional character AND born outside of the United States, were the winners of the election. Would the 2nd-place person be given the position or would they hold another election? Would the votes for ineligible people just be voided?

I'm going across the country on an AmTrak train tonight and I was just curious if there were any little things I should be aware of while either in the stations or on board. I've never been on a train before, so I'm a little nervous, I guess.

Amtrak will usually take as long or longer even if nothing goes wrong but jokes on you they will literally ALWAYS run several hours behind schedule and cost more than a comparable Greyhound route. I'm not paying for it, someone else did. Even if I wanted to take a Grayhound, the ticket for the train is already purchased and it leaves tonight. It looks a helluva lot more comfortable on the train than a bus too. Regardless, even if it takes a little longer, I'll be on the train playing on my PS Vita and/or using my computer with the Wi-Fi, which is exactly what I'd be doing at home. My time is completely worthless.

I just saw a strange thing in the sky when I was letting my dog out. It looked like a flame moving very fast horizontally and then it just disappeared. It didn't look like a shooting star, it looks more like the end of a lit cigarette or a large piece of flaming debris from a fire pit. It didn't have a tumbling motion like you'd expect from an ember though. Just curious as to what it could be. I don't think it was lights on a plane or a helicopter, especially since it just disappeared while I was looking at it. Any ideas what it could be?

I haven't played much of GTA5 but I remember being kinda surprised by how much swearing was in the opening hour or so. Really turned me off of the game. At least I assume they're universal, though I imagine they'd take different forms in the Global South. The curious state of existence and all that.

DildenAnders posted:There's a more specific answer here, skinheads arose as a working-class alternative to hippie culture in Britain (ironically enough heavily inspired by Jamaican immigrants and explicitally anti-racist). The short hair was a signifier that they worked industrial jobs (need to keep it short or it'll get caught in machinery, though I'm sure there was some military influence as well). Not sure exactly how, but the skinhead movement got co-opted by neonazis and white supremacists, became highly visible, and spread the skinhead aesthetic around as a symbol of white-supremacy and hatred. This fact always makes some old ska and two-tone songs a strange listen. "Skinhead Girl" immediately comes to mind, where the narrator of the song is talking about how he loves his skinhead girl with her hair cut short and her boots & braces; all stuff the Skrewdriver and later white power bands stole from that whole ska scene. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Wzt2ywYSrI A lot of the shift towards Nazi stuff for skinheads originated in the UK because of working class men struggling during the various crises that happened in the late 70s and early 80s, which made them easy targets for the far-right parties like the BNP and National Front. The British white power bands like the aforementioned Skrewdriver established the skinhead look elsewhere as their music was distributed worldwide. I suppose it's just like any other music subculture that spreads in that sense, it's just, y'know, the evil version of all of that. It probably didn't help that a lot of punk bands who weren't racist used Nazi imagery and iconography as shock value, which was misinterpreted by others to be serious. There's the fairly famous outfit Sid Vicious wore that was the red shirt with the swastika in the middle. I don't know what Sid's views on any of that stuff but I doubt he had any coherent political believes. He was a little too dumb and way too fond of heroin. That punk shock stuff was a lot like the "ironic racism" that was popular online in places like 4chan and here, for better or worse.
