Yup, it was good fun. Kind of more whimsical and light hearted than I'd imagined, but would definitely recommend.

Hmm. I don't know a lot about Liberal Party leaders from the 1970s (the big fat one turned out to be a child molester, didn't he?) but I'd been under the impression that Thorpe had a kind of predatory, sometimes even abusive relationship with his boyfriend. Did the programme shy away from that or did it engage with it?

the shift in the last scene when Thorpe starts talking murder suggests that eps 2 & 3 won't be so whimsical

this was Thorpe on the up remember. having fun & pursuing great success in his career. i expect the tone will change as things come crashing down around him.

engaged. grant I thought did a good job of acting so charming on the surface but with the underlying creepiness, without becoming a pantomime character

He always appears to be slowly morphing into Stephen Rhea.

Unless Stephen Rhea is also in it, and I've just got muddled on the posters.

I thought Grant was great in it. Between this and PADDINGTON 2 (Which he's having a total blast in), he's having a good year.

Which astounds me at still being the only 100% RT movie. I haven’t seen it all, but what I’ve see while Ms Oktober watches it is indeed adorable.

They're nice silly family films.

Also I love Carnage. It's Robot Wars with cars. Between that and Revolution, Sky are very much into getting crazy people to risk life and limb to make some excellent daft telly recently.

Car Share is a goddamn gem. What a wonderful show and I don't even like sappy shows like this but the way it's filmed and the way it uses music to tell stories is incredible.

Not quite as cringe as the Stephen Merchant one though.

Yeah, I’m enjoying it as well, I also really liked the Horne Section Television Programme, which was like a 70s variety show with modern comedy sensibilities, and was much better than that sounds. Dave are really knocking it out of the park recently.

Looking forward to that, and I've just seen they commissioned a Horne Section TV show too.

Just letting comedians (and Richard Osmand) do their own thing is both enjoyable and cost-effective.

Can’t see why it wouldn’t, unless they’ve changed how the whole system works. I hadn’t heard of it until a few years ago, so worked then.

I was a bit apprehensive of the lineup of the latest Taskmaster season but thankfully I'm enjoying it a lot and everyone on there is great. I'm not a massive fan of Russell Howard but I also don't get a lot of the hate directed towards him either and he seems like he's having fun on Taskmaster. Tim Vine is brilliant, Alice Levine is really cool and I'm pleasantly surprised at how funny both Liza Tarbuck and Asim Chaudhry are.

Also I'm loving that the series is 10 episodes now. :discourse:

Going by the recording of the first episode, the majority of what Asim Chaudhry says is pulled in the edit, mainly because it's lovely dick and wanking jokes

It was a cute ending. I’m glad they didn’t end it with some grand romantic gesture.

I loved them making fun of lovely wedding invites, especially the ones that ask for cash, and the little details such as the ‘no dogging zone’ sign.

Aphex- posted:

Russell Howard is resented by a bunch of more tenured comedians because of his overnight success, and this feeds through to their fans.

It's not that anything is especially wrong with him, but that he got on TV on the back of being young and moderately handsome rather than due to talent, and then got exponentially more famous and successful still off of that.
The BBC tend to pick a small set of comedians and put them on everything, and they then get to play massive gigs to people who know them from TV.

Alice is wasted on the radio that's for sure.
