I asked before but I dont think I saw an answer. Can I put a 9700j in a 370 board to replace my 8700k? Or will features be locked down without a 390 board?

My 380 got a bios update for the 9th gen chips. So what's the big deal with these 390 boards?

Looks like I got hit by the newegg hack. Debit card and Credit card have been locked due to fraud. I cant put money in my account and I don't have a way to pay for anything. nice.

My bank also called me and I was like "ill call you back" and found a different number. I can't get ahold of anyone since it is Columbus Day, so who the gently caress called me? edit: two purchases for over 1000 dollars at Lenovo. Going big. Inept posted:Are you sure it was your bank and not a scammer? https://krebsonsecurity.com/2018/10/voice-phishing-scams-are-getting-more-clever/ Oh that's why I hung up. I found the number they called me on buried on their website so it was a legit call.

heat posted:Read the link! Caller id is very easy to spoof and scammers are getting much more sophisticated. Oh I understand that, I manually dialed the number after verifying it. I haven't had a chance to read it. I'll do that when I get home.

Lambert posted:I don't think that would help with verifying who called you if they spoofed the Caller ID. No, but I was at least able to know that it was a valid bank number that I could call at a later time and find out what was going on instead of just trusting the possible spoofed id call.

By calling the legitamite number it would validate if I got a call from a spoofer. I received a phone call, I didn't like that I was asked for personal information so I hung up, researched the number on my bank's website, called the number, and realized there was an actual credit card fraud attempt.

It wasn't too long ago where 200 for a cpu and 150 for a board was a solid build. Or am I remembering that wrong?

The more I think about it the more I'm blown away. I've only been watching Steve for a month and I've been deep diving into the archives for more.

TheFluff posted:who the gently caress are you and why are you suddenly making GBS threads up all the hardware threads Yeah it pretty much came out of nowhere and he is reading into poo poo that nobody is implying so he starts tail spinning every loving time. He's like Benjy on the Howard Stern show if anyone listens. Anime Schoolgirl posted:you seem to have a habit of reading way more into what's being said than what's actually been said and not just in this topic so i think i'll just leave it at that Oh well here we are saying the same thing, hah. But staying on topic I have decided to not move from an 8700k to a 9900k strictly due to price. gently caress that. I should have done that with the 2080ti but I didn't. It took two rapid fire hits of "gently caress you" from the top hardware producers for me to close my wallet. If the 9900k came out before the 2080ti I probably would have gotten a 9900k and not a 2080ti. Aeka 2.0 fucked around with this message at 15:53 on Oct 15, 2018 |

orcane posted:Haha holy poo poo that i9 9900k power draw and temperature. Even that 5 GHz turbo running on all cores is a challenge that requires massive cooling and/or funny voltages. Christ. Yeah I'm not switching boards twice a year. gently caress this poo poo.

So since I don't want to move up into a new board and cpu. I was thinking of getting this for my 8700k. Should I do it? Or is this just a waste of time and energy? https://www.rockitcool.com/products/copper-upgrade-kit-for-1151 Its currently on an AIO right now with the stock IHS.

BIG HEADLINE posted:Well, I'd advise against using Conductonaut on bare copper. The nickel plating is what insulates it from damage, even though it doesn't attack copper as badly as it does aluminum. Steve at GN did a video about Conductonaut's effects on different metals - and as I recall, it stains copper pretty readily, but I'd be worried more about long-term degradation. So using the stock IHS with LM is the best current solution for long term use?
