I did the same thing since a friend of mine recommended it to me last night (thanks Spec). I should have waited until my 4-day weekend ended, though, since it would have been a really good way to pass the slow periods at work :v:

This was really really interesting to read and I'm definitely hooked now on this like I am on Homestuck. It's like a mixture of Zork, Harry Potter, Scifi AND Steampunk all at the same time... or something. It's good!

Also: lil' crab dude owns, Mort owns, all the characters own

Well, let's look at it like this. At some point in Annie's ancestry, some guy saw a woman made of fire and said "Hey, I'm gonna stick my dick in that". Compared to that, having one of your ancestors decide to bone some sentient water is downright sane and normal.
Coyote's remark about that was one of the funniest things in the whole story so far. Coyote is the poo poo.

I love the horse's sunglasses flying off as its head hangs out of the car. Wow, the fact that we even have a horse wearing sunglasses in a rice rocket is pretty hilarious on its own, drat.

I also have been going back the whole story for the past couple days - my first time rereading it all. I'm noticing a lot of interesting details this time around, and it's really increased my appreciation for how well-planned so much of the plot is.

Yeah, seriously, this. There are so many people who want to get published, even for free, but don't manage to for whatever reason. You've not only been published, but you've been putting out some damned fine work for other people to enjoy, whether they bought the hard copy of it or just read it online.

Be proud of yourself! Gunnerkrigg Court is a really cool story with excellent art and I'm always happy to see it update. If you haven't made serious money off it (so far), that's not something to be ashamed of. You're giving something back to the world, and it's appreciated. That might sound hokey or whatever, but it's true!

Wait, what? :psyduck:

I discovered this comic when the same friend who got me into Homestuck last year recommended it to me. I didn't hesitate to check it out after his other recs. I started reading late on a Saturday night before bed, just to see what it was like. Before I knew it I had spent about 4 hours and got half way through the archive. I finished the next day and was caught up right around when Bud was first shown in that bucket (so pretty recently).

I'm still convinced Coyote is the best character in the whole series, and one of the most entertaining characters I've read, period, in recent memory.

There is no reason to think that something bad will happen here. I mean this is Gunnerkrigg Court, not some horribly depressing dark comedy or whatever.

The sword is behind him. It might be pressed against his metal frame, which could almost be dangerous! But probably isn't because he's a robot and has already survived one body being completely destroyed and rendered into paperclips.

Good point. I have the wall space for something like that (unless it's bigger than like 6 feet), but can understand most people not having that much room. Let alone disposable income.

Only thing that could have been funnier is if she dropped it and it bore a hole straight to the center of the earth, then magma came up through the floor.

I'm not worried about robot, though. He's gonna get a new body and this one will probably make a fine box of staples or something.

Also, I didn't realize at first why Kat was asking Parley to take them all to her workship - I mean, what, is everyone so distraught they can't walk themselves? Then I saw the last panel and felt really really dumb, and also excited. Group teleporting? Now that would be fun. Well, as long as it doesn't end up like The Fly.

[edit] vvv Of course. I don't actually consider something like that even possible in this comic :v:

It seems sort of significant that the Court, forest, and river have all been treated as effectively infinite, with no boundaries or clear relation to the outside world or internal geography beyond the small portion given over to the boarding school. Defining it that way would sort of run against the mystery. I really don't think it's going to come up in next chapter that oh yeah the Court is twelve miles across, shaped sort of like an egg and up the M62 north of Manchester

True, and clearly a good design decision for the story. But considering Kat's been on vacation elsewhere in the world, I think we can at least assume it isn't this all-encompassing mass of urban jungle. Not yet at least!

The more I think about this kind of stuff, the more curious I get about the unspoken details and hints we've gotten so far.

Regarding today, to me, the most surprising part of all of this is that they're studying in a classroom with interior windows and actually paying attention. I'd always be distracted by people walking by if that was me.

OK this is fantastic.

Also, looks like the teacher is the one with the pinkish hair and a blue mark on her cheek in a very conspicuous place. Perhaps she had a run-in with Jeanne too? (And has blue blood. Interesting.)

[Edit] Nevermind that's not the teacher, she's got a student uniform on. Derp.

It's also pretty impressive that the students can mess around in the fancy magic world while still typing on their computers and paying attention to some complex school stuff in the real one. Meanwhile we've only ever seen Annie kinda zone out into zombie mode whenever she goes aetherial. I guess these Foley folks are all REALLY good at multitasking.

Somehow I find it really endearing and hilarious that Jones has a traditional dumbphone, but then it dawned on me that we don't know for sure what year this story is set. I've always assumed it was similar to the current time, but maybe in the story it's more like early 2000s or even late 1990s (in which case Jones' phone is probably totally badass, haha). Or, hell, it could be something completely off if technology developed at a different rate due to the world's ethereal mechanics.

Also possible: the phone is actually a robot, and the transferring call voice was the phone itself talking. :v:
