Some good compositions not leaning heavily on any particular genre.

Did a score for a feature film, really happy with how it turned out. Each scene in the film required a track; something in between a typical pop song and a traditional score. The thirty tracks in total had to be done and ready for picture-lock in two months (since the final cut needed to be timed to the music). Came up with a whole crazy system to be able to make so many tracks in so little time without drawing blanks for composition ideas: First, I decided to only use major scales. For the the first track, I started on C major, then moved up one step on the circle of fifths for each successive track, so C > G > D > A>etc.. The four story lines of the film were each edited to a specific song so I took the BPMs of those songs they used for temp music and made them the BPMs for all the tracks of a particular storyline. Then I came up with a script that generated chord progressions (ex. I - I - IV - V) and song structures (ex. ABACA) for me and used those to sketch all thirty tracks (and thus avoiding loop-itis). The rest was just filling in the blanks with sounds.... https://soundcloud.com/wache/sets/weeknight-downers

So, my daughter was going on about some fantastic idea in her head when I interrupted her: "Did you just say 'Love Zombies'?" "No......" "That's actually a cool idea! I'm going to make a song called Love Zombies" so I did. It was ok, I guess. It has the lyric "Cast down to a man by cupid's dart/Now they walk the streets seeking human hearts" which I think is cool. But the story behind what a Love Zombie might be got into my brain and wormed around in there until I had to make a concept album. It's still missing 3 tracks, but the ones that are done are basically not going to change again. I'd like to get people who aren't dependent on me for food (and all under 12 years old) to tell me if I'm on the right track... https://soundcloud.com/nik-fortuin-153625460/sets/love-zombies

Huh. For me it's been more of an issue of it being usable at all, but honestly that may be more Bitwig's fault than Izotope's. Some of the newer Arturia plugins seem to have similar issues.

Starting work on a new EP now- expect it to be about 3 or 4 tracks. Going for a more dubby or minimal techno vibe these days, doing more with fewer tracks and layers. I've been inspired by the likes of Stephan Bodzin and Francis Harris, along with the soundtrack from L.A. Noire and Sim City 4. I think there's a lot of groovy stuff that can be pulled out of that combo. Here's a work in progress tentatively entitled 'Lisa'. Sax still needs a little work in places. Still getting use to composing convincing blues/noir vibes. Otherwise, the arrangement is mostly done. In an odd departure from my usual workflow, the sounds have hardly been processed at all aside from reverb and some parallel compression on the drums. So I took the big leap, and got my new album "The Banana Fiasco" all over the world on every streaming service including Amazon, iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play and it's actually doing pretty good! Considering no one knows who the hell I am. All thanks to friends prodding me and Soundcloud making me believe my poo poo was any good and people would actually want to buy it/stream it. I'm pretty pumped up about it and already have two tracks done for the next album. "Phly" and "Going Somewhere" if anyone cares to check them out. https://soundcloud.com/tom-pellegrino-146151417/tracks

The first time I listened was over lovely speakers an just got the acoustic (clean electric? sounds acoustic.) guitar and beat. second listen was over headphones which is the only way I heard the rest of the track. I'd actually bring the acoustic back in the mix just a little bit let the backing track work a little better. (or you can put multiple compressors on everything and then you have a Tronik track!) I will for sure listen to your future stuff. JVNO posted:Starting work on a new EP now- expect it to be about 3 or 4 tracks. I borrowed a bit of money and built an ultimate live looping rig for my illness (chronic CFS/ME). Something lightweight to play, easy to use, and set up in such a way that I don't have to look at a computer screen. I've set up the studio so it records everything in OBS, and I would have multi-cam, but my CPU was struggling under the load. Tonight was the first time I plugged it all in and switched it on in its new configured setup. It's a Swissonic 88 key light action keyboard, as well as a 61 and 37 key korg microkey. I have an Akai MPD218 to trigger percussion, and control the VST's using the korg microkontrol2, and cubase AI as the DAW. The looping is done via a BOSS RC-505, and I've also decided to splash out on a Line6 variax guitar and a FirehawkFX effects unit. The looping is all controlled with a Behringher FC1010 foot pedal with a Uno 1.0.4 ROM upgrade thingy. 80% of it now works with the looper. A snippet of tonight's sound check - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFuG9dop2jE I'm documenting the project on a facebook group if this is anyone's cup of tea.
