While doing some research on if I want to buy a physical table or not, I found Topcast. It's a podcast dealing with pinball and they have interviews with pinball designers, artists, sound engineers, software engineers... good stuff to check out on the history if your interested. Last one was from 2010, so some are a bit dated.

The interviews are usually over an hour and once you get past the initial cheese factor and they get the person on the phone they go from the person's first memory of pinball to what was current at the time. Some of the interviews are: John Trudeau (Gottlieb, BoP, Judge Dredd), Michael Gottlieb & Alvin Gottlieb (Gottlieb, Alvin G.), Steve Kordek (Genko, Bally, Williams), Steve Ritchie (Black Knight etc...), Mark Ritchie(Sorcerer, Capcom) Pat Lawlor (about a 3 hour interview), Lyman Sheats, and a bunch more.

At random I picked Python Angehlo's as the first, and was kind of puzzled why they started with a disclaimer that his views don't reflect their own. Then he started talking. I think it's only three minutes in before Python asks them if they've ever read Ayn Rand and less before he just starts badmouthing other designers.

I haven't listened the Python show yet, that will go to the top of the list. I did notice a lot of animosity toward Joe Kaminkow, who did Space Shuttle at Williams and helped start and run Data East/Sega with Gary Stern. Gottlieb, John Trudeau, Steve Ritchie and Mark Ritchie didn't go into detail but mentioned him in a negative light. Kaminkow comes off as a smug rear end in a top hat to me in his interview, seems he feels he kept pinball from dying with Space Shuttle and all the entertainment tie ins at Data East and Sega.

Mark Ritchie and John Trudeau's have been the best so far for me. Lot's of good detail especially about what happened at Capcom, why lightning flippers on Fish Tales, and about unrealized pin from ICE.

The Python Angelho one... Goddamn, I'm wondering if he was drunk or just old and crazy. He just shits on everyone! Even the people he said he respected he shits on! Bobby King of Farsight was on the Spooky Pinball Podcast (its the latest episode, do yourself a favor and don't listen, the hosts are terrible) and had some interesting tidbits.

-Next kickstarter won't happen until after the current ones are done, or at least Twilight Zone is out

- Next Kickstarter will probably be Terminator 2

-Licensing wise, they get what they can afford, Creature only has 3 of the original 5 songs included.

- They really haven't heard bad things or much from the original designers on their recreations, though Bobby apparently talked to Steve Richie and Richie has a desire to do a virtual table

- Prices on physical pins that are in Pinball Arcade are going up, Ripleys was cited, seemed Stern wants more pins in it now due to this.

- he really wanted to play the Pat Lawler ProPinball table which I felt was nice they at least acknowledge the competitors.

On the topic of the "PRO" menu, from other sites, it's said it's just too much for what you get, though apparently there is a touchscreen mode where you can drive the ball around the table. On the Mac OS X version 1.0.5, the Elvira and No Good Gophers release, you can somehow get to an adjustment screen, haven't found instructions, but here's a video http://pinballarcadefans.com/showthread.php/2296-Mac-Version-1-0-5-Bugs-And-Feedback

If they release it, I plan on buying one. But not willing to throw down a deposit at the moment.

From what I've read and seen, I think it will come out, I think it will be sometime in mid to late 2013, but it will come out. Their Facebook page has pics of a lot of cabinets and playfields being assembled, so that's a good sign. They seem to have the playfield 80% done and are waiting on software to be completed, and with just 1 guy doing that, good luck locking down a date.

I think the fact that Jack hates Gary Stern and Stern pinballs will ensure the game comes out.

Pinball news just posted a big piece on the Jersey Jack factory, lots of pictures, http://www.pinballnews.com/games/wizardofoz/index34.html. Looks like they're trying to get the production process down and bugs worked out of the system. In their PinExpo fireside chat, Jack mentions that they have 1400 of the top of the lines and 400 of the others on pre-order, and that they're working on the next 2 tables one licensed and one original. I hope they actually get the Wizard of Oz table out and do more tables, competition is always good, but I wouldn't pre-order one, especially on their terms:

From Jacks Pinballsales.com site:

quote:

INITIAL DEPOSIT IS $2,250.00

Payment Schedule is as follows:

$1750-On or before 11/15/12
$1000-On or before 12/15/12
$1000-On or before 1/15/13
$1000-On or before 2/15/13

THE PRE-ORDER PRICE FOR THE GAME IS $7,000.00 PLUS ANY APPLICABLE TAX AND SHIPPING CHARGES

Barring anyone having new old stock or a repro, I'd think your best bet would be someplace that did vinyl car wraps. I'd stay local because you could probably talk them into doing it as a one off, if there's a copyright notice on the art that may scare some places off. And talking art, I don't know what a shop would want or have to do to what you have to make the piece work, so that may jack up the price.

I don't know of anyone whose used the vinyl wrap idea, I just figured that's how the graphics were originally made and you could probably do it like that. Someone on Pinside worked with the Planetary Pinball guy to get F-14 Tomcat cabinet decals made - http://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/f14-tomcat-cabinet-decals-available-soon - the original cabinets were painted and this is both sides , front, and the backbox sides and that's running $239, which probably isn't too bad in the long run and I would assume you could only buy a complete set from a supplier. So you might want to speak to him.

Here's another thought after seeing your damage, and the patterns on there. Can you just get some vinyl parts of the blue and white background done , and the "Pull This" sticker and carefully using an x-acto knife cut out and replace the damaged sections? You may need some black also, but just follow the lines and fit it in?

Some interesting bits:
He said that Wizard of Oz should start shipping in 6 months, those who ordered the most will see them first, so if your an operator and ordered 10 you get priority, least the way it sounded.

2nd machine will be themed, sounded like they went back on the unlicensed 2nd game.

Jersey Jack owns the rights to all the Bally/Williams games so they could re-run old machines at some point.

Pinball Circus is a venture of Python Anghelo, Planetary Pinball and some Euro distributors and if they get the money together Jack will run the game.

$2999 US. Amazon exclusive in the US at least. Interesting target to shoot for, doesn't seem to have worked in the past, but those were more cut down machines. I think the price point is a little too high, if it was 1500 I'd consider one. I believe it's made in conjunction with Hasbro. Up until the last release on IOS, everytime you updated the app, your previously purchased tables would show up with the buy now option. It was an annoying pain in the rear end. They looked to have fixed this latest release, as I didn't have to restore any of my previously purchased tables.

Latest release also didn't wipe out any of my standard or wizard goals for once, so that's at least a win.

The Pinball Factory is/was an Australian company that bought the rights from Williams to manufacture parts and games right after Williams closed pinball down. The Capcom license is owned by Gene Cunningham/Illinois Pinball/Pinball Manufacturing, he made the Big Bang reproduction, and is/was trying to make Kingpin. I'd be all over an Aerosmith one if they stick to music.

Stern usually only likes to talk about tables that are in production. Something about not getting people's hopes up and selling current product, though they still take orders for older pins and if they still have the rights and the parts will do another run ex. Tron had a run in October and is getting another run in March, but this is about future pins...

Stern is listed as a licensee on the new Star Trek film, and rumor on that its a Steve Ritchie design , Lyman Sheats software , and Greg Freres art. So it's 2/3rds the AC/DC team and I assume its based on the new film series.

Metallica is supposedly a Borg table, there were rumors it would be KISS but those got shot down. I'm impressed they didn't go for KISS with a built in fan base that's used to buying merchandise, they could have the game next to their KISS coffin, but Simmons probably wants way too much in royalties. I'd think tables based on musical artists would be more of a machine for bars than anything, kind of an interactive Juke Box and could see there being a different music based pin every year or two. I'm going be at MGC this weekend, I'm looking forward to it I've never headed out to anything like it before.

Also - I wonder if Pinball Arcade is ever going to do some of the old Sterns (e.g. the late seventies/early eighties machines that Gary's dad made). I played a Big Game earlier this week, and I had a ton of fun with it. Reminded me a bit of Genie. There's also a Seawitch in Chicago that's plenty of fun to play too.

Farsights gonna be there, so you can ask them about old Sterns. If they emulate the Bally CPU for Centaur, it shouldn't be that bad. I'd be in for Flight 2000, Stargazer and Orbiter 1. Orbiter 1 would require a physics engine that allowed spin on the ball and I don't think they have that yet.

There was a dude who modded out his Cactus Canyon rom and added four or five new modes including drunk multiball. Which was activated if you hit the beer mug post several times. During Drunk Multiball the flipper buttons were reversed. He also managed to track down one of the voice actors and got him to do more quotes. It's a real shame that Farsight could never add his rom.

The programmer of Cactus Canyon Continued just did an interview with Spooky Pinball. He is using a P-Roc board and is recreating the software from scratch, so he may have missed some modes or nuances in the code? His site is here http://soldmy.org/pin/ccc/index.php?title=Main_Page and it's pretty interesting stuff, and unless Farsight wrote a P-Roc emulator it will never be seen. The programmer did mention he bought his Cactus Canyon new and was on IRC with the Williams guys at the time, so got to know some of them. He also said that the Cactus Canyon developers knew it was going to be a short run game and that production of it would stop once Pinball 2000 started up, which must have sucked.

There's also a new pinball simulation out for iOS that recreates real life tables, well they're Zaccaria tables, who were the 3rd largest manufacturer in the world at one time, so says their byline.
.
It's from A.S.K. Homework so I'd expect the physics to be utter crap like Age of Pinballs, but it's nice to see someone else trying.
Once it gets the Snake Plisskin table I'm in
.

It's still no Black Fever, but that's from Playmatic anyway

So that Zaccaria pinball app for iOS is now free. Their facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/askhomework, has videos of gameplay. The person demoing has no clue how to play, they are constantly hitting the flippers no matter where the ball is. It's worse than my son when he first played, and probably explains their understanding of pinball and why their games suck.

I also noticed this on the Cactus Canyon DMD

I haven't seen a Farsight ad on any of the other DMD tables. I'm guessing that they set that in the operator menu on their in office Cactus Canyon machine, dumped the roms and forgot about it.

Zaccaria Pinball got updated with a "simulation" mode which apparently has better physics. Didn't seem terribly different from my experience, the ball still feels too heavy and has barely any bounce on the flippers, although I do want to say it's easier to make shots now.

I'll agree that's it's easier to make shots with this upgrade, but I've run into a more issues than fixes with this release. I can consistently pull the plunger back and have the ball fall out of the shooter lane onto the floor, then the camera will lock onto a nice view of the floor. They added landscape mode, and modes will switch between portrait and landscape during gameplay if you move just the slightest bit. I've also had the ball pass thru the white flippers on Time Machine. All of this was not happening before the upgrade, which is a shame as I really like Time Machine.

Did I read somewhere that new IOS PBA tables are released on the 15th of the month, or is it just whenever? I wanna play Whirlwind!

They just posted pics of the tables on their Facebook page so it's getting close to release. You may be disappointed though as the tables are Space Shuttle and Whitewater.

Graaah it's Friday are we getting the new PBA tables today or what? Also is Circus Voltaire just buggy as poo poo for me or everyone (iOS)?

It's around midnight Eastern US that stuff gets released on iOS, I think, it's usually late in the day.
CV is buggy, Farsight has even said so. I think they were looking to patch it.

I just picked it up and after playing Time Machine for a while bought the whole gold package. The devs are really responsive to feedback and the tables are really weird with spectacular art. I feel bad about passing up the chance to play Time Machine at MGC when I had the chance.

I just bought the Farfalla table and I'm liking it. The flippers in the outlanes are really inventive. It's better than Time Machine. It seems to have different characteristics to it than Time Machine, ball moves faster, the ball doesn't pass through the flippers, and it doesn't have the ball falling out of the machine in the shooter lane. Are those differences consistent with the other new release tables, if so I may pick more tables. Also, how does the "custom" game mode work? I have mine set to simulation which seems to be right for me, but may pick that extra up.

On Metallica news, Stern released video of the LE. looks like a fun game

Borg gives an overview - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB1SUsubMuA

Lyman gameplay - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gzxc59Y6GcA

Lyman makes the game look slow which I would not think would be the intention for the game. Some of the shots on the left side look incredibly tight especially the inline drop target. Still want to play it though
