Lil B the based God has taken the world by storm. You may remember him from the Pack and their song "Vans." Since then, he's gone solo.

quote:

Few rappers have harnessed the wild-wild weirdness of the internet as effectively as Lil B. Over the past year, the 21-year-old Berkeley rap phenom has doused the web with hundreds of songs, gobs of videos, over 150 MySpace pages dedicated to his work and a Twitter feed that never sleeps. He’s even launched a mini-meme with “cooking” — a dance craze that involves repeatedly shrugging your shoulders while you pretend to beat eggs with a whisk.

Yet despite his undeniable gift for hyper-sharing, Lil B still manages to imbue his music with a sense of intimacy, tempering oddball boasts with warmth and enthusiasm. And like any great rapper, he’s creating his own lexicon. He often refers to himself as “Based God” — a title that suggests there are no boundaries to ambition or his imagination — and frequently describes his songs and concert appearances as “very rare.”

Lil B has yet to release an album, but he has a ton of mixtapes out. He has been collaborating with Soulja Boy Tell Em and SOD Money Gang, so there may be something there. His music is heartfelt, stream of consciousness about bitches, bitches sucking dick, fuckin bitches, and gettin money. Lil B is a future superstar, definitely one to watch.

You can get a lot of his tapes here.

For real though, I love this dude. For every terrible track (like everything on the MF DOom one), he has some super interesting, bizarro left-field poo poo like BOR. His best album is Rain in England, where he just does Base freestyles over ambient tracks. It seriously moves me, it's so honest and fresh.

THANK YOU BASED GOD

I should chime in here because I actually went to his show in NYC. I had no idea what to expect, me and my buddy went solely to see how much of a hilarious train wreck it could be. I was shocked at how many people were legit into Lil B. The crowd was nuts, Pretty Boy was probably the song that went hardest, but he performed songs from a bunch of his most viewed youtube vids. He is also crazy ADD. each song lasted like two choruses and half a verse. He tried to freestyle and got writers block after two lines, so he said gently caress it and had the DJ play pretty boy again.

Highlights:
the ticket stub read: LIL B (THE BASED GOD)

He left by saying "Imma go party at some rich nigga's club"

Yes, there were girls in the crowd who would definitely bang this guy.

He called out rappers who were Republicans.

He has a 29 inch waist.

He said he wasn't going to get involved with any beef during the show.

Also, I always thought he was an awful rapper. His stuff that is quoted as being good doesn't compare to any good rappers. I am over his joke now and now view young humma as the funniest youtube sensation musician.

This sounds eerily similar to Kool Keith shows. I think both dudes are legitimately "off" mentally, and also both are intensely creative. There's an element of humor in it, but I'm sincere about enjoying Lil B in he same way I love Kool Keith.

when you have over 800 songs on myspace, and probably 150 on youtube,it's kind of hard to remember all your lyrics.

I truly believe that if someone like Del The Funky Homosapien would release a song like "The Age Of Information", people would herald it.

Young Humma is intentional humor.
Lil B is in a weird halfway mark, where even if he
is doing it all for jokes, he at least does a good
job trying to look more serious and focused in his
videos and performances.

You have to be Based to understand Lil B music. The mind is so complex when you're based. 32 levels.

But really, when "I'm god" came out I thought the Imogen Heap hook was legit but Lil b sounded retarded. Then he started releasing videos like every week and I decided to listen to a few and began feeling it more and more. Hes kinda similar to Gucci Mane, if you pay attention to the lyrics they are pretty amateur/terrible but he has a weird swagger flow and good ear for beats and it just all kinda melds.

WHO THE FUCK TOLD ME NOT TO SPOKE?
I really liked the Vans song. I kept reading about him in the Hip Hop thread, youtubed a few tracks, assumed it was hipster bullshit, and left it at that. I then researched dude a little further and saw how much music he was putting out and had to respect that, at least but I still didn't "get it" I've watched a few videos in this thread and I found some decent tracks but a lot of amateur, like homie has no breath control on a few of em and the rhymes and metaphors were pretty meh. I could see bumping it at a party because the quality seems to scale evenly with the amount of drugs/alchohol I've consumed before listening.

This interview makes him seem like a cool guy and has a vision, I just can't get into the music for whatever reason. Guess I'm not based enough :(

Fake edit: He does have the best album covers for mixtapes I've ever seen though, amazing poo poo.
