Today I took a two-hour nap in the afternoon, ate a really nice steak and enjoyed a cigarette and a beer on my parents' porch. I haven't really relaxed in awhile but I think I got close today.

it is my birthday this weekend and i just found and rescued a pet tarantula that I thought my cats had killed and eaten back in april she was just livin her best life under the fridge, being a giant 7” spider she seems surprisingly healthy and calm e: she definitely had a successful molt at some point out there, which is super impressive Rockman Reserve has a new favorite as of 17:29 on Jun 28, 2020 |

food court bailiff posted:it is my birthday this weekend and i just found and rescued a pet tarantula that I thought my cats had killed and eaten back in april that's...incredible, honestly. I'd figure a large spider like that would require a pretty specific environment to survive, kinda amazing(maybe concerning???) that under your fridge is equivalent to the tropical or desert environment that it's probably from since it was living outside of captivity for a while imo that falls under the purview of a critter and thus you should post about it with pictures in the critterquest thread

So my house is pretty old (1860s) and my bedroom ceiling is a bit crumbly so after two years of apprehension that the whole drat thing is about to fall down on me, we got a specialist opinion and he thinks it's fixable with localized patching! So no need to take the whole thing down and no need to fear being crushed by a falling victorian ceiling. The drat thing appears to be made of a two inch layer sand and small pebbles coated with plaster so fear of being squashed was real. Edit: it's practically done already after half a day's work! The damage was almost entirely limited to the areas that had already fallen so he cleared that away and has already put in the new surface. It's a lath and plaster ceiling so it can be fixed in exactly the areas that are damaged. Pookah has a new favorite as of 13:49 on Jul 3, 2020 |

I busted out my box of old magic the gathering cards to go through since I found them during cleaning a couple months ago, and one if the first cards I pulled out was an Unlimited Shivan Dragon, worth anywhere between 50-150 bucks depending on the condition (which I'll have to investigate). I don't remember if I have anything worth a goddamn in general but I suppose it's time to organize and possibly unload these, since I haven't played in 20 years, there's probably something worth a drat besides that. Also found my original pokemon cards and a shoebox full of yugioh cards I bought at a yard sale but have absolutely no idea if any are worth anything, so that'll be even more investigating and a trip down memory lane. It's also really tempting me to get back into magic, Which Is Bad

I'm finally on a vacation that hasn't been mandated by my firm because of Covid exposures. I'm going to 100% ignore absolutely everything to do with Covid, the economy, stimulus bills, and anything else that isn't the NHL playoffs, marijuana edibles, bourbon, or delicious food. So far my only plans are to see my girlfriend tonight to watch the Blackhawks game and make out and go golfing with my dad next Friday morning. This is going to be the best loving thing and couldn't have happened sooner. My job has really been taking it out of me lately so getting some time away from people's failing businesses and rich people's neediness is going to be absolutely amazing. I think the first thing I'm gonna do is lay in bed in my pajamas and watch old episodes of Top Gear.

Also: My laptop fan cooler was busted and only two fans were running so I just spent an hour taking it apart, removing five million dog hairs, and now it's working fine and has way less dust in it.

I found a small bunch of pokemon cards from years ago in my box of misc cards and it turns out these six are worth like 1200 bucks and are in nearly pristine shape, so that's making my day even if it also reminds me that I sold off most everything of worth in my magic card collection that are worth like 500 a pop nowadays

I finally got around to watching Bumblebee and thought it was great, for a Transformers movie. Probably my favorite. Lots of mind-blowing CG and cute/silly moments. And as an old person I was pleased that their Eighties stuff was not the usual horrible garbage you usually see in "retro" movies and tv shows.

My garden's been a total mess for years because I've been too sore to do anything about it due to long terrible shifts, but I have new downstairs neighbours so my landlord sorted out the garden, and my neighbours are actually helping, so it's not all down to me anymore. Yay! I've been trying to keep up with weeding it but they just grow back too quickly, so I'm glad to have other people to help with it. Like the Landlord got the gravel redone and deplanted, then the neighbours did the flower boxes/beds the next day.
