For me it's how well it's written. If I'd read something and enjoy it even with the property it's based on stripped, it's a good story so why make fun just because it's like, Professor Quirrel on a date or something. Now, a bad story with fanficciness scooped atop it will be exponentially more bad than a bad story without Anyhow my day has been great because I played guitar outside next to the fire, but I've done that several days in a row now so... Cool.
