Check out Kennedy Space Center The view starts focused on the giant VAB (Vehicle Assembly Building), the Launch Control Room (where the software the hits the "button" that launches the shuttle is), and the turn basin, where the only 2 ships owned by NASA bring the SRB's (Solid Rocket Boosters) that they recover from out in the Atlantic after they're jettisoned during the launch. If you move out towards the coast of the Atlantic, you'll see a huge row of ancient Launch Pads, from all the way back to pre-mercury days. I betcha didn't know there were so many pads out there. There is actually an even better, and cooler image, of one of the current shuttle pads (that was formerly one of the Saturn IV pads for the Apollo program): Eh, its in here some where  You know what, just look at this whole list cause they're all awesome

Yeah, I read that, but how does he know? It seems baffling to me that this thing would be maybe 30 miles inland from miles and miles of florida coastal tract that is owned by USAF and NASA where they have tons and tons of all the imaging equipment they could seemingly need. There's no paved access road to this place. Nor in the countless times that I've driven past it on my way to orlando have I ever seen even a sign indicating anything there. Another thing, this is in the MIDDLE of the swamp. They must have had to bring in so much fill just to bring that much land slightly above the water line. The mosquitoes must be unimaginable. My dad was in the navy in the '70's and they did have radar stations further inland and several counties north. IDK, I just don't get it.

Well yeah I guess re-reading his post I noticed it was more in-depth than I realized - that's what I get for getting so excited just by the fact that this is so close to me. Unless anyone makes any [good] objections though, I'm still going out there. I want to more so now. I can't imagine this thing being used since before the B-2 and the advent of computer processing capable of accurately modeling EMF. Insight/clarity of thought of any kind welcomed. (BTW thanks for bringing that to my attention withak)

Oh hey cool. As for my trip report going to the Lockheed Martin radar profiling site... I don't wish to talk about it. Turns out there's a gate way sooner than I thought their would be. The gate opens to Deseret property - which is a mormon cattle ranching operation out here. I don't feel that great about trespassing on mormon lands, you guys would probably never hear from me again and I'd be bound and gagged in a room somewhere learning about the church of latter day saints. So I tried to find an alternate route based on google earth footage, and made it no where near where I was trying to get, probably looked super suspicious in a pretty vacant industrial park, and lost my wallet when I got out to check the gps and shoot a compass Bering. Then I had to run 2 tolls because I didn't have $1.25 in loving change (who would?) I am so goddamned bad at everything. Maybe I'll try again another time.

I've seen ferns grown in large rectangular greenhouse-type structures like that before (I live in FL too). That's kind of what it seems like to me. The blockhouse is maybe just the main servicing structure - like the shed where they keep all the stuff... Maybe the circles were once silos or reservoirs for water. I still am at a loss for why you would want to grow ferns commercially  This wasn't on the same land as the "NASA" facility, was it? What NASA facility is down there in Broward County (being sincere here)? Well it looks like there are only 2 airworthy Lancasters still in existence, and one's in Canada, so that pretty much narrows it down. We can even pretty much figure out exactly which Lancaster it is. A US Navy ship in dry dock in the US Naval Shipyard in Charleston, South Carolina (United States). http://maps.google.com/maps?q=32.86...rg.wikipedia.en I think the way that link works is that even if you aren't signed in to google (or gmail or google+ or whatever) it still will have the "wikipedia" and "photos" options enabled, which is cool because right in front of the dry dock the ship is in is a pic of what it looks like from the ground, empty. For some reason, this area seems to have really good resolution, too. Those planes could conceivably have been parked their since the early cold-war days (SAC), or at least the same airframe with updated avionics over the years. The b-52 isn't supposed to be decommissioned until they're as old as flight, itself, is now.

They look like some kind of concrete casting that was poured into a mold and then left to cure. Could be that they were left to cure there, or just moved there at some point. Wish I could be more specific about what they're actually for, that part remains a mystery to me as well.
