Ooh, cool new site:

http://www.displaywars.com/22-inch-16x9-vs-19-inch-4x3

The 22" is a little shorter, you need at least 23.5" to match the height.

My 12 year old Dell 24" Ultrasharp died!

I have a 17 year old Sharp 20" 1600×1200 monitor that still works great, I wonder how much longer it will carry on, imported from Japan, so probably for a while still.

Just got the LG 27GN950-B 27 Inch UHD (3840 x 2160) Nano IPS Display Ultragear Gaming Monitor with 1ms Response Time 144Hz Refresh Rate and G-SYNC Compatibility, and it's surprisingly not too bad. All the display modes are some horrid "gamer" mode, with FPS mode as far as I can tell being a rather lame cheat method for brightening everything. It apparently has a fan which is common to this type of screen, but haven't heard it yet.

With an nVidia RTX 4000 I'm seeing 100-120fps at 4K. Hilariously I had to increase crosshair size because at 4K it was way too small.

Replaces a 20 year old Sharp 20", which is about 18" widescreen equivalent.

Has anyone played around with commercial ultra-stretch displays as extra monitors?

It looks like pricing is still steep and actually a step down in resolution from the three displays I currently have set up, but there is a certain appeal to consolidating low demand information on one long screen.

yes, the answer is usually: ""

Low resolution and odd sizes, and frequently rather expensive. Still waiting on a $20k LG ultra-stretch that is somewhere in the US.

As long as you view it as a TV, per viewing distance, rather than a monitor, you should be ok. The DPI is quite jarring up close, especially after using 4K for a while.

For whatever reason the ultra-stretches are 4-5 years behind conventional sized panels. Even had an LG engineer confirm that last week.

Conversely I have seen some really nice commercial panels around the world, but not from LG or Samsung. Like retail and service at airports, with bigger budgets than normal. With micro and mini-LEDs these should become more common and really good quality, it is supposed to be a 2021/22 launch for this tech.

The monster 30"+ displays usually have that function with multiple inputs.

I seem to recall some like of streaming hardware controller that can do this, at random prices. Something like this, idk there are probably better options,

Maybe one of these picture-in-picture boxes, but something less awful?

4k @ 144hz is coming! :getin:

I have 4K @ 144Hz over DisplayPort and tried enabling HDR, then the fps dropped to 50. So, nVidia Quadro RTX 4000 not enough for that I guess. Waiting for new Ampere workstation cards.

Has anyone used one of these to communicate with a monitor. I can send commands over it, but can never receive anything. 300+ LG and Samsung panels. It's a 3-pin basic TX, RX, and Ground connection. So odd.

It'll be odd if the TX/RX are swapped but it still accepts the TX line. Going to try a null-modem/crossover adapter.

I have a HDR/144Hz LG monitor and hook up with USB-C to MacBook and Razer laptops, I'm struggling to understand and find a basic USB-C switch to toggle between both laptops. Like why are these devices advertised with specific frequencies of 4K@60Hz or 4K@120Hz, and mentions HDMI with no HDMI ports?

Random device: https://www.amazon.com/Bi-Directional-Computers-MLEEDA-Compatible-Thunderbolt/dp/B0BK8JBS69

I think the 4K@120Hz means Thunderbolt 3, while 4K@144Hz requires Thunderbolt 4, and these switches are a higher price bracket:
